BELLINGHAM, Wash.—The Central Washington volleyball team was taken down by the No. 19 Vikings from Western Washington by way of a 3-0 sweep in Carver Gym.
The Wildcat offense could not find their footing and a .110 attack percentage alongside 20 errors was not enough to overtake the Vikings on their home court.
"We battled tonight and got better as the match went on. We didn't capitalize at the net as much as I hoped for and the tremendous rallies went Western's way most of the night. They took some big shots and converted well against us. We will go back and regroup, and on to the next." CWU Head Coach

The 'Cats kept their composure early in set one as block by
Emma Daoud-Hebert and
MacKenzy Borek brought about an early 3-3 tie. The Vikings found their footing however, and a 15-3 scoring run put the 'Cats in a deep hole, 18-6.
Marianna Payne and
Tia Andaya both found a kill, but it was
Emma Daoud-Hebert alongside Andaya and Payne who land the final points for the 'Cats in the first set. The Vikings took set one with ease, 25-13.
Set two was off to a rocky start for the 'Cats. The Vikings found a pair of scoring runs, but kills from
Ashley Kaufman,
Tia Andaya, and
Emma Daoud-Hebert kept the 'Cats on the board, 10-4.
The 'Cats offense finally found momentum as service error by the Vikings alongside back-to-back kills from
Ashley Kaufman and
Tia Andaya brought the 'Cats within two, 14-12.
The Vikings would not relinquish the lead however, and it was
Laynie Erickson who landed the final kill of the set for the 'Cats to keep them within two, 24-22. The Vikings found their final point on an attack error by the 'Cats and took set two, 25-22.
The final set began in favor of the 'Cats. Back-to-back kills from
Leanna Shymanski and
Marianna Payne alongside a pair of errors by the Vikings put the 'Cats ahead, 4-1.
The Vikings began to answer, but another set of back-to-back kills from
Emma Daoud-Hebert and a third from
Marianna Payne kept the 'Cats in front, 11-7.
In the middle of the set
Ashley Kaufman found herself a service ace giving the 'Cats their largest lead of the night, 16-11.
The Vikings quickly shut down the 'Cats offense, allowing only the final kill from
Ashley Kaufman to bring about an equalizer at 21-21. The Vikings took control of the remaining scores and won the final set and match, 25-22.
