Andaya, Wildcats Fend Off Wolves Through Five Sets

MONMOUTH, Ore.—The Central Washington women's volleyball team outlasted the Wolves from Western Oregon in five sets to close out their GNAC road schedule for the season.

"Road wins are a premium for sure, but all wins this late in the season are critical. Offensively we had a blue collar attitude all weekend and it served us well. Our serving was key tonight as well. Kayla Skipworth got us some nice runs and as usual everyone else stayed aggressive." Said CWU Head Coach Mario Andaya

Tia Andaya led the charge for the Wildcats picking up her sixth triple-double this season breaking the GNAC single-season record, and putting herself alone at No. 2 in all of Div II through tonight's matches.

"We ask a lot of our players and Tia Andaya takes ona  couple of different roles. Tia has embraced it and doesn't let down anytime she's on the court. It's cool the number validates her efforts."

The 'Cats were off to a quick start, Ashley Kaufman and Leanna Shymanski landed kills alongside a service ace from Kayla Skipworth and it was 4-2 in favor of the 'Cats.

The Wolves offense found a trio of scores, but an 8-1 scoring run on kills from Marianna Payne, Kylie Thorne, Emma Daoud-Hebert and a pair of service aces from Sydney Remsberg had the 'Cats in front 13-5.

After a kill by the Wolves, the 'Cats made the adjustment and scored six straight to end the set on a kill by Kylie Thorne, 25-10.

Set two kicked off more favorable to the Wolves. A series of errors by the 'Cats allowed a 5-3 Wolves lead.

After the 'Cats retook the lead on a pair of service aces from Hannah Stires, the Wolves answered with a five-point scoring run to retake the lead 14-10.

Tia Andaya and the 'Cats found their footing, and four straight points cut into the Wolves lead 22-18, forcing them into a timeout.

The 'Cats offense continued to fight, and a kill from Kylie Thorne capped off a seven-point run to bring about a 22-22 equalizer.

Unfortunately, the Wolves had overwhelmed the 'Cats and took set two, 23-25.

Set three was a continuation of the grudge match. The Wolves and 'Cats fought through multiple equalizers until the 'Cats tipped the scales on a kill from Leanna Shymanski, 9-7.

The Wolves had climbed with one at 11-10, but the 'Cats offense kicked it into gear with kills from Ashley Kaufman and Kylie Thorne to keep the 'Cats in front 17-12.

The Wolves continued to fight, scoring a majority of the remaining set points on 'Cats errors before Ashley Kaufman hammered home the final kill to take the set, 25-17.

Set four opened in favor of the Wolves, but the 'Cats fought back to bring an equalizer at 6-6.

A series of errors kept the 'Cats pinned down and the Wolves extended their lead out to 16-8.

The 'Cats scored three more on a kill from Tia Andaya, Marianna Payne, and Ashley Kaufman, but the Wolves shut the offense down and won set four, 25-11.

After a tough fourth set, the 'Cats rushed out to a 4-1 lead off kills from Tia Andaya and Ashley Kaufman.

The Wolves found a few scores, but a kill from Emma Daoud-Hebert forced the Wolves into a timeout. The 'Cats led 10-4.

The Wolves fought for a comeback, but Tia Andaya slammed home the final kill to slam the door on the Wolves and win the match for the 'Cats, 15-8.
