Softball Opens 2021 At Home Against Puget Sound

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University softball team opens the 2021 season with a doubleheader against the University of Puget Sound.

"I'm beyond excited to be on the dirt and competing with my team again," CWU Head Coach Alison Mitchell said. "It's almost been a full 365 days since we last put on our uniforms and took the field together. We have been working hard to prepare for this day and I'm really looking forward to seeing it pay off."
 
SCOUTING PUGET SOUND
The Loggers open their season today (Feb. 26) with a doubleheader against Western Washington University.
 
In 11 games in 2020, the Loggers were one game below .500 at 5-6.  Hana DeGuzman was hitting .361 before the play stoppage. Marissa Oda led the Loggers with a pair of homeruns, she was hitting .346.
 
Savan Smith made seven appearances in the circle for UPS, five starts, and hurled 25.1 innings. Smith allowed five homeruns and posted an ERA of 7.18. She struck out 17 hitters, while walking 21. The Loggers held a team ERA of 6.68.
 
THE WILDCATS
Central posted a record of 13-9 before the play stoppage on March 13 under first-year head coach Alison Mitchell
 
Harlee Carpenter led the Crimson and Black with an average of .392.  She led the Wildcats with 15 RBI and also tied for the team lead with three round-trippers. Carpenter posted an on-base percentage of .475.
 
Samantha Stanfield notched a record of 6-3 in 12 appearances, eight starts. Over 52.1 innings, Stanfield held an ERA of 3.61 and struck out 48 hitters. She pitched two complete games, one shutout, and recorded a save.
