QUOTABLE
"This is a unique situation with no fans and back to back matches, but we are excited. We are getting a taste of what other teams have had to adjust to the past few months, but ultimately, we are excited to play an opponent and get some real play in. We're glad WOU and UAA can have a place to play here in Ellensburg as this has been quite the ride for everyone, it should be fun." Said CWU Head Coach Mario Andaya.
SCOUTING THE WOLVES OF WESTERN OREGON
This week's match is the first for the Wolves this season. The Wolves had to suspend their 2020 season the year prior so it will be the first match in well over a year.
In 2019 the Wolves posted a 5-22 overall record, and 3-17 in the GNAC. The Wolves averaged 10.6 kills per set with 10.1 assists. On the defensive side, the Wolves averaged 13 digs and 1.8 blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES OF ALASKA ANCHORAGE
The Seawolves have already played five games this season, posting a 4-1 overall record. The Seawolves swept Seattle Pacific University, toppled Saint Martin's University and split with their neighbors over at Alaska Fairbanks. The Seawolves will be coming off of their first loss in two neutral site games in Ellensburg against the Wolves before playing the 'Cats the following day. The Seawolves have either won in straight sets or taken it as far as the full five in two matches.
So far this year the Seawolves are averaging 12.4 kills per set on a .241 percentage. The Seawolves manage 11.1 assists per set with only one ball handling error. From behind the line the Seawolves average 2.2 aces per set with 50 errors on the season so far. In receptions on defense the Seawolves average just over a single error per set at 1.6. The defensive side for the Seawolves is just as effective, averaging 13.8 digs a set and 2 blocks.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE 'CATS
The Wildcats opened their spring season last week dropping both games to Seattle Pacific University. Each match the 'Cats were only able to win one set.
As a team, the 'Cats are averaging 9.9 kills per set on 9.3 assists. The 'Cats give up roughly 6 points a set with ball handling errors as well. From behind the line, the 'Cats are averaging 1.2 aces per set. The 'Cats are quick on the defensive side, averaging 16.6 digs per set and 1.4 blocks.
The 'Cats are currently led by Analia Vasquez who managed 22 kills in her opening games, averaging 2.44 a set. She is followed by Marianna Payne, Kylie Thorne and Mackenzy Borek. On defense, it is the trio of Kylee Yamashita, Alyssa Smith, and Carly Gibbon who lead the way with 4 blocks a piece.
SPECTATORS PROHIBITED
Per Washington state, Kittitas County Health Board and the GNAC, spectators will not be allowed at events. Schedules are subject to change at any time pending decisions from the health board and other local and regional authorities.
