Wildcats Meet Nighthawks in Regionals

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University softball team is slated to play Northwest Nazarene University in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals.

SCOUTING NORTHWEST NAZARENE
The Nighthawks come into the week as the No. 3 seed in the West Region. They posted a 30-12 record during the regular season, including an 11-5 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
 
Leading NNU's offense is GNAC player of the Year, Brittany Genuardi. The senior catcher also earned the D2CCA West Region Player of the Year honors. She ranks in the top 10 regionally in average (.397), doubles (12), on-base percentage (.541), and walks (.93/G). Genuardi is the NNU career record holder for home runs, RBI, and walks.
 
Joining Genuardi are Ivy Hommel, Sidney Booth, and Maia McNicoll. All four posted averages above .370. McNicoll leads the region in home runs with 12. She ranks second in RBI (36) and total bases (90), and is fourth in slugging percentage (.732). The Nighthawks are hitting .334 as a team and have scored 254 runs.
 
In the circle, Booth led the way for Northwest Nazarene. She posted a record of 15-3 in 21 appearances, making 19 starts. Booth held the opposition to an average of .194, culminating in a WHIP of .91 and an ERA of 1.76. She struck out 163 hitters.
 
THE WILDCATS
Central enters as the No. 6 seed after finishing the regular season with a 17-14 record, including a 9-7 mark in GNAC play.
 
Senior outfielder Theresa Moyle continued to add accolades to her season, being named to the D2CCA First Team All-West Region after earning both First Team All-GNAC and NFCA All-West Region First Team honors. Moyle posted an average of .380 during the regular season, with four home runs, and 31 RBI. She slugged .670 and holds an on-base percentage of .429. She has also hit seven doubles and five triples.
 
Sydney Brown (23) and Gracee Dwyer (20) have both driven in 20+ runs. Dwyer is also second on the Wildcats with three home runs.
 
Harlee Carpenter finished the regular season with an average of .356 with seven triples. She sat atop the Division II leaderboard for the majority of the season. Carpenter drew a team-high 20 walks, putting her on-base percentage at .473. On the base path, Carpenter was a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases and scored a team-high 32 runs.
 
Samantha Stanfield led the Wildcats' pitching staff. The right-hander recorded a 6-4 record in 14 appearances, making nine starts. She struck out 49 hitters over 65 innings and posted an ERA of 3.05, with a WHIP of 1.37. Stanfield amassed five complete games and one shutout while holding opposing hitters to an average of .254.
 
The Wildcats and Nighthawks did not meet during the regular season, Tuesday's game will be the first time CWU and NNU have squared-off in 2021.
