Hall of Fame Fridays: Bill North

It's time to highlight another member of the CWU Athletics Hall of Fame. Each and every Friday through early August, in partnership with Legends Casino, Wildcatsports.com will highlight legends from CWU's past. This is the final installment of Hall of Fame Fridays.

Bill North was a member of the Central Washington University NAIA Baseball team from 1967 to 1969.

During his time with the Wildcats, North started in Center Field with a .364 career batting average. During his final season with the Wildcats in 1969, North hit with an astounding .443 average. North led the Wildcats to a 3rd place finish in the 1968 NAIA College World Series. North won both NAIA Honorable Mention Honors in 1968 and First Team All-American Honors in 1969.

North was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round of the 1969 MLB June Amateur Draft. North spent his first two seasons with the Chicago Cubs before moving on to the Oakland Athletics in 1973 where he won two back-to-back World Series titles in 1973 and 1974. North then went on to spend one season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1978 before finishing his career with the San Francisco Giants from 1979 to 1981. Throughout his career North won two American League Base Stealing titles and played in 1169 games.

North left for pro ball only a few credits short from graduating but returned in 1993 to complete his degree in Sociology.
