ELLENSBURG, Wash.—The Central Washington Volleyball team closed out the CWU/SPU Invitational with a sweep over the Biola (Calif.) Eagles.
"I was impressed with our team's resiliency. Biola (Calif.) puts good pressure on teams but we also we're committing a lot of errors. We stabilized and found some kills. I thought Laynie and Hannah played tremendous defense and gave us a lot of chances to score. It was a great weekend for us and we will enjoy this for today, but then its on to conference play." said CWU Head Coach

The Wildcats kicked off their final match of the Invitational with some of their momentum from the night before. A quick kill from 5

Leanna Shymanski had the 'Cats in front, 3-1. The Eagles, fresh off their win against the Western Oregon Wolves, quickly found their groove and tied the set 5-5.
A pair of attack errors by both sides later in the set provided the equalizer at 11-11. After a series of video reviews, the 'Cats came back to the court with authority.
Marianna Payne and
Leanna Shymanski put up a pair of back-to-back kills that echoed through Nicholson, forcing the Eagles into their first timeout. The 'Cats led 20-15.
A pair of kills from
Laynie Erickson and
Tia Andaya closed out the first set in favor of the 'Cats, 25-21.
The Eagles took flight early in set two, with the 'Cats out of sync they took an early 9-1 lead. The Eagles stayed in front, but a series of attack errors brought the 'Cats back within two as the Eagles led 14-12.
Hannah Stires landed a beautiful service ace, and the Eagles gave up an attack error for the equalizer at 21-21. A four-pack of kills from

The Wildcats came out swinging once again in the third set.
Leanna Shymanski slammed the first point for the 'Cats, and after four miscues by the Eagle the 'Cats were just ahead, 5-4.
Later in the set
Marianna Payne slammed home a kill and yet another miscue by the Eagles forced them into a timeout. The 'Cats started to pull away 16-11.
With zero answer from the Eagles,
Marianna Payne threw down a trio of kills extending the 'Cats lead 21-12.
In the end it was the Idaho native
Ashley Kaufman who shot down the Eagles with back-to-back kills, ending the final set 25-14.
