QUOTABLE
"After last week's game we came back and got after it and are focusing on playing together as a unit," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said. "It will be a tough two games on the road but I am excited to see what we can put together."
SCOUTING NO. 10 WESTERN WASHINGTON
The Vikings have yet to suffer a loss in 2021. They are 5-0-2 overall with the two draws coming out of conference to Colorado School of Mines and, at the time, No. 22 Point Loma. In GNAC play, Western is 2-0-0.
Despite their 5-0-2 record, scoring has been a challenge for the Viks. They have scored 10 goals thus far, averaging 1.43 per game. Tera Ziemer has provided 40 percent of the scoring, while six other players have tallied a single goal. Makenzie Burks and Estera Levinte have registered three assists each, a team high. Western's attacking capabilities have not been in doubt, however, as the side have averaged 21.9 shots per game for 150 on the year. Just 49 of those shots have been on goal, putting the Viks at a clip of 32.7 percent of their shots on frame.
Defensively, Western has smothered opposing attackers. The defense has limited opponents to 62 shots, less than half of Western's attempts. Opponents have scored just four goals and the Viks' opposition have yet to put a crooked number on the board. Natalie Dierickx has played 670 minutes in goal, 100-percent of her team's game time played. She has made 20 saves and notched three clean sheets. In two-GNAC contests, Dierickz has compiled five saves on 13 shots. The Vikings have yet to complete a clean sheet in conference play and have allowed a goal in each of their last three games.
SCOUTING SIMON FRASER
Simon Fraser sits a 1-4-1 on the season, including a 1-1-0 mark in GNAC play. SFU picked up a win in their last outing over Saint Martin's, 2-1.Â
Offensively, SFU has tallied four goals on 41 shots. Kate Cartier leads Simon Fraser with a pair of goals. Kayle Goncalves and Giuliani Zaurrini have netted a goal each. Four different SFU players have recorded an assist. All three goals from Cartier and Zaurrini have come against conference opponents.
Kelsey Fisher has started all six games in goal. She has played all but 18 minutes of her time's time in matches. She has made 20 stops on 73 shots. Her goals against average stands at 1.16 with a save percentage of 74.1.
THE WILDCATS
Central's slump continued last week as the 'Cats dropped matches to Northwest Nazarene University and Montana State Billings. They are currently 1-5-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in GNAC play.
Prior to last week's fixture with Northwest Nazarene, the Wildcats had scored a goal in every game. Sophia Keenan scored against MSUB, avoiding back-to-back clean sheets.
Makinzie Packwood leads the Wildcats in both goals and points. She has compiled six points with two goals and two assists. In total, six different players have found the back of the net so far. Casey Park is second on the team in points with one goal and one assist for three points. Central is averaging 11.7 shots per game and have accumulated 70 for the year, including 38 shots on goal. Over half of the 'Cats shots are on goal, at a clip of 54.3 percent.
The Wildcats have struggled defensively. Opponents have taken 94 shots and put 60 of them on frame. Of their 60 shots on goal, the opposition have put 21 in the back of the net.
Liz Canton got the nod in the 'Cats last outing at Montana State Billings. She made seven stops, and allowed a pair of goals, on 21 shots against.
