QUOTABLE
"We're just trying to improve every week. We have another quality opponent in Lewis & Clark State, so we're going to work hard in practice and look to get better this weekend," said Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
The Warriors sit 11-1 overall and have yet to begin conference play. The Warriors, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, are members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The lone loss on Lewis & Clark States record came at the hands of Arizona Christian, who walked it off 10-9 in the bottom of the ninth scoring three runs on a pair of singles, a pair of doubles, and a sacrifice fly.
Lewis & Clark State have been the long-standing hosts of the NAIA College World Series. Just last season the Warriors finished 44-6, advancing to the semifinal game before falling to the national runner-up, Central Methodist 8-5.
The Warriors strongest offensive weapon is Sam Linscott. Linscott, a 5-3 outfielder from Marysville, Washington, is hitting .522 at the plate with a .739 slugging percentage. The Lakewood High School graduate leads the Warriors with 24 hits, seven doubles, 19 runs batted in, and is a perfect 10-10 on stolen bases.
On the hill the Warriors lean on Trent Sellers. Sellers, a 6-1 right-handed pitcher from Kennewick, Washington, owns a 2-0 record alongside a 1.62 earned run average through his 16.2 innings of work. Sellers has allowed just nine hits and three earned runs while striking out 23.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats are headed to Lewiston, Idaho, after dropping a five-game series to Cal State San Bernardino 3-2. Sitting 4-5 on the season overall, the Wildcats closed out their five-game road trip with a 10-9 win over the Coyotes in 14 innings.
Adam Fahsel had a strong trip down in San Bernardino, leading the Wildcats going 9-24 at the plate with five runs, five runs batted in and two doubles in the series.
Austin Hauck continued to show himself as a valuable addition to the Wildcats lineup, hitting a strong 8-23 with five runs, four runs batted in, and three home runs in the series.
Charlie Larson, the Wildcats 5-11 third baseman had a strong weekend as well, going 7-18 with four runs, one run batted in, and the game winning run in Centrals 14 inning victory over the Coyotes.
Freshman
Ryan Arredondo had a strong outing on the mound for the Wildcats in game three. The 6-1 right-handed freshman threw six innings, striking out four and allowing only six hits and two earned runs. The 5-4 victory for the Wildcats marks Arredondo's first win thus far this season.
Arredondo's performance helped lead
Brayde Hirai to a two-inning save, the first of his career.
