ELLENSBURG, Wash.— After just over a week off providing some additional rest and recovery, Central Washington returns to the race through the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule as they welcome Saint Martin's for a four-game series at home on Saturday and Sunday.
Both days will consist of doubleheaders with a 12:00 p.m. start time.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Saint Martin's (7-18 overall, 2-6 GNAC) heads to Ellensburg after dropping a four-game series 3-1 at home to the Yellowjackets from Montana State Billings. The Saints fell to the 'Jackets by scores of 10-3, 4-1, and 5-0. The lone win of the series was secured by a score of 4-3 on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
As a unit the Saints are hitting .247 with an on-base percentage of .342 led by Aaron Renaud. Renaud, SMU's redshirt-junior first basemen, is hitting a team-leading .299 at the plate with a .545 slugging percentage. Renaud has 23 hits on the year including four doubles and five home runs.
On the hill Justice Yamashita is the only Saint with two wins on his record (2-3). Yamashita, a sophomore right-hander, owns a 2.79 earned run averaged (ERA) through five starts. Tied for first in the GNAC for complete games (1), Yamashita owns the only complete game shutout in the conference.
RETURNING TO THE CONFERENCE RACE
Central Washington (8-17, 2-6 GNAC) returns to conference play after dropping a two-game non-conference doubleheader at home to Lewis & Clark State last Thursday.
Despite sitting second in the GNAC with 242 hits as a team, the Wildcats offense continues to remain the most consistent leading the conference in batting average (.287) and on-base percentage (.371).
Adam Fahsel and
Zach Berryman continue to sit first and second in the conference in total hits and runs scored. Fahsel leads both categories with 35 hits and 23 runs scored, and Berryman just behind him with 34 hits and 22 runs scored.
Josh Touhey (2-3) and
Ryan Arredondo (2-1) lead the Wildcats pitching staff in wins. Touhey owns a 4.75 ERA through a team-leading 30.1 innings pitched on six starts. Arredondo owns a 5.70 ERA through 30.0 innings with 17 strikeouts and just eight walks on the season.
