ELLENSBURG, Wash.— After a slow start to the afternoon with a 10-5 loss to Saint Martin's, Central Washington rallied in game two on the back of
Dylan Weese to claim an 8-5 victory over the Saint's in Sunday's night cap. The Wildcats split the Great Northwest Athletic Conference series with the Saints 2-2.
"We played well in both games today," Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey said. "We controlled what we could, and we swung the bats well in the later half. Weese had a great outing which is always good to see. We still have a few things to work on this next week as we prepare for MSUB."
Weese (1-2) was the star in the night cap for the Wildcats. The junior right-handed pitcher scattered just five hits across his 4.2 innings of work. Weese added five strikeouts to his final line alongside only one walk and one earned run.
Brayde Hirai (1-0) came in on relief in game two, picking up his third save of the season.
Tyler McClain and
Trevor Tripoli led Central with four-hit afternoons. McClain provided a double, one run, and one run batted in this afternoon. Tripoli added a big two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth in game two, extending the lead (7-3) and giving the Wildcats two big insurance runs. Tripoli had an additional one run scored this afternoon.
Saint Martin's Finnley Butler (2-0) and Kameron Richards (0-0) were too much for CWU in game one. Butler, the Saints starter, allowed four-earned runs on six hits through 4.0 innings pitched with a lone strikeout. Richards came in on relief, allowing six hits and one unearned run through his 4.0 innings pitched.
Reid Little led SMU at the plate this afternoon, finishing the day 6-9 including two doubles alongside four runs batted in, and one run scored. Ryne Oshiro and Hunter Kosmider provided four-hit days for the Saints as well.
Central Washington continues its run through GNAC play next Friday and Saturday with a four-game series against Montana State Billings. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
