ELLENSBURG, Wash.— Central Washington's 25-hit explosive performance carried the Wildcats to a 28-3 win over Montana State Billings in game one of its four-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference series. The Yellowjackets answered, holding Central to just six hits in its 9-3 loss in the night cap.
"It's the little things that cost us in game two," Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey said. "We started swinging at pitches in game two that we weren't in game one, and we gave up a few opportunities. If we play much more consistent throughout the day, we're in much better shape."
Tyler McClain and
Trevor Tripoli made their way into the GNAC record book in game one, joining a now 21-way tie for single-game runs scored with five.
Tripoli led the Wildcats at the plate today, hitting .625 (5-for-8) with six runs and six runs batted in including a two-run home run in the fifth inning of game one: the first of his career.
Central Washington's pitching duo of
Ryan Arredondo (4-1) and
Jonathan Garza II (1-1) caged the 'Jackets in game one. Arredondo scattered three hits and just one earned run through 6.0 innings with four strikeouts. Garza II came in on relief in the seventh, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts in the final three innings.
Cooper Dulich closed out the afternoon hitting .571 (4-for-7) with one run and two runs batted in.
Montana State Billing's Matthew Houlihan (4-3) and Tyler Elliott (3-0) caged CWU in game two. Houlihan started on the mound for the 'Jackets, allowing two earned runs on hits, two walks, and two strikeouts through 5.2 innings pitched. Elliot slammed the door on Central, not allowing a hit or a walk with two strikeouts to close out game two.

nd, with another doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m.
