ELLENSBURG, Wash.— On a gusty Saturday afternoon that saw a combined 63 hits, Central Washington dropped a pair of games 22-15 and 8-7 to close out its Great Northwest Athletic Conference series against Montana State Billings.
The pair of losses gives the 'Jackets the series 3-1, dropping Central to 11-22 overall and 5-11 in GNAC play. MSUB advances to 18-16 overall and 9-7 in GNAC play.
Adam Fahsel had a day at the plate finishing with a .571 (4-for-7) average alongside five runs, three runs batted in (RBI), and a single stolen bag. Fahsel also had a double and a walk.
Zach Berryman had a dominant game one, going four for six at the plate with a pair of doubles, two runs, and two RBI's. Berryman was just one for three in the night cap with one run and two additional RBI's.
MSU Billings' Michael Buchanan (1-0) picked up the win in the opening game. Buchanan went 3.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with one walk, one strikeout, and two hit batters.
Jacob Goudzwaard (0-0) had a strong presence out of the bullpen in game two. Goudzwaard allowed one earned run on four hits across 2.1 innings with a single strikeout.
It was Brooks Zimmer (1-0) for the Yellowjackets who earned the win for game two. Zimmer threw two perfect innings, picking up one strikeout alongside four fly-outs and a single ground-out to halt the Wildcats momentum.
Mason Powell and Hayden Foltz had five-hit days for MSUB. Powell finished the day five for nine with four runs and four RBI's. Foltz found four runs and four RBI's as well whilst going five for eleven.
Central Washington hits the road next weekend continuing the sprint through GNAC play. The Wildcats are scheduled for a four-game series in Nampa, Idaho, against the conference-leading Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2:00 p.m.
