Wildcats Reach the Century Mark for First Time Since 2013 in Win Over Saints

LACEY, Wash. – The Central Washington women's basketball team traveled to Saint Martin's and came out victorious scoring a new season high in points in the process in the 100-74 victory. The Wildcats had four players score in double-digits in the win.

QUOTING HEAD COACH RANDI RICHARDSON-THORNLEY:
 
"I'm really proud of our ladies tonight. Our consistent ability to get buckes helped minimize SMUs runs. We shared the ball really well tonight with over 30 assists and that is reflected in our shooting percentage. Now it's the recovery battle as we have another big one on Saturday."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • The Wildcats opened the game with a 14-0 run and never looked back going on to lead at the end of the first quarter by a 28-12 score.
  • The Saints opened up the second quarter with the scoring as the Wildcats opened up their paint scoring with 14 points in the paint in the second quarter and an Ashley Schow three at the buzzer put the 'Cats up 51-36 at halftime.
  • The Wildcats came out of halftime in a sharing mood as the Wildcats had assists on eight of their buckets in the third quarter continuing to find success in the paint for the 75-54 lead at the end of the third.
  • Asher Cai opened the fourth quarter with a big three-pointer to boost the Wildcats to outscoring the Saints 25-20 in the final 10 minutes giving the Wildcats the 100-74 victory. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
 
  • The Wildcats were led in scoring and rebounds by Samantha Bowman with 21 points and 12 boards. 
  • Cai finished with a double-double as well finishing with 15 points and 10 boards.
  • Sunshine Huerta and Schow both also finished in double-figures as Huerta scored 16 and Schow finished with 16. 
  • Tori Maeda, Claire Heitschmidt, and Riley Johnson all finished with nine points, while Malia Smith rounded out the scoring with three on the night.
  • Maeda finished with 10 assists to lead the 'Cats while Huerta had eight on the night.
  • The Wildcats finished with six blocks on the night with Bowman finishing with four.
  • The Wildcats finished with three steals on the night.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • This was the highest scoring game for the Wildcats this season.
  • The last time the Wildcats reached the 100-point mark was against Quest University of Canada on Saturday, November 23, 2013 in a 101-66 victory. 
  • This was the Wildcats 13th consecutive win over the Saints to now lead the series 22-18 all-time.
