Wildcats Fall in Defensive Battles to Northwest Nazarene

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NAMPA, Idaho - The Central Washington softball team finally got their weekend starting following the cancelation and shuffling of games. The Wildcats took on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks in the first day of their double-header series first taking a narrow 0-1 setback in game one, followed by a 3-6 setback in game two. 

GAME 1

SCORING:
  • The lone score came in the fourth inning when Kellcie Adams singled to right field advancing Siolo Church to third, and the throw from right field caused an error allowing Church to score. 
PITCHING:
  • Isabel Womack pitched another complete game for the Wildcats, going all six innings. 
  • Womack only allowed three hits, one run, five walks, and six strikeouts against 28 batters.
  • Sidney Booth takes the win for the Nighthawks pitching 5.1 innings, with Tori Hensley finishing the game on the mound for NNU.
  • Combined the NNU pitchers allowed three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts against 26 batters. 

HITTING:
GAME 2

SCORING:
  • The Nighthawks started the scoring in the second inning when Madison Felter sacrifice flied out to right field bringing home Maia McNicoll. 
  • The Wildcats responded in the top of the third when Carpenter singled down the left field line bringing Jillian Hampson home.
  • Kate Hopkins then singled to left center allowing Laney Kaysner to score.
  • Benthagen sacrificed herself which allowed Carpenter to score.
  • The Nighthawks didn't respond to the three-run inning by CWU until the fifth inning when Hensley singled down the right field line bringing Jami Obringer home. 
  • Abigail Gagnon singled to left field which allowed Hensley and Booth to score. 
  • In the sixth inning Clarissa Moreno doubled to left field bringing Felter home, which was followed by Booth sacrificing herself to score Obringer.

PITCHING:
  • The Wildcats were led by Ashlee Laver who pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits, six runs, six earned runs, and four walks against 28 batters faced.
  • Freshman Payton Kessler finished out the game for the Wildcats facing three batters while allowing a walk and getting a strikeout. 
  • Hensley pitched a complete game for the Nighthawks allowing six hits, three runs, three earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts while facing 29 batters.

HITTING:
  • The Wildcats recorded six hits with Myiah Seaton, Brooke Jordan, Kaysner, Hopkins, Carpenter, and Hvitved all recording a hit. 
  • The Wildcats left five runners on base.
  • Six different Nighthawks recorded a hit as well.
  • The Nighthawks left seven runners on base. 

UP NEXT:
  • The Wildcats will wrap up their trip to Nampa with another double-header day against the Nighthawks on Monday with first pitch of game 1 set for 11:30 a.m. with game two to start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
