Track & Field Records 11 Event Wins & Over 30 PRs at Wildcat Open

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - In the team's only home meet of the season, the Central Washington University track & field team showed out. The Wildcats recorded 11 total event wins, including four relay victories, over 30 PRs, and a provisional qualifying time from Branden Wise at the Wildcat Open.
 
The Wildcats honored their outgoing senior class, including Braydon Maier, McCall DeChenne, Lauryn Chandler, Austin Albertin, Erica Cabanos, Ty Savely, Angus Beaton, Zack Sundt, Chris Hines, Brenna Board, Meredith Massey, Kiarra Green, Shawn Clough, Deylan Okinaka, Jenna Heesacker, Jancy Sykes, Tre Silva, and volunteer assistant coach Randy Stevenson.

QUOTING HEAD COACH KEVIN ADKISSON:
  • "We like to say that every day is a great day for track & field, but today turned out to be just about perfect. The weather was awesome, and we saw great efforts that included some big PRs for people in addition to the event victories. It was great to see all the support and teamwork that went on as well to pull the meet off. It was a big team effort."
ABOUT THE MEET:
  • The first event win of the day for CWU was claimed by Lauryn Chandler, who ran a 14.24 in the 100-meter hurdles. Chandler also added a PR in the long jump.
  • E'lexis Hollis brought home a win in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.04. She followed that up with a 4th place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.35), good for a PR.
  • Juliette Williams registered a PR of 24.72 in the 200-meter dash, a 1st-place time.
  • The Wildcats swept the 400-meter hurdles. McCall DeChenne recorded a time of 1:02.85, maintaining her conference-leading mark, on her way to a win. On the men's side, Austin Albertin ran a 53.54 to take the conference lead and the event win.
  • Speaking of sweeps, the CWU relay teams dominated the day. All four relay teams picked up wins and season-best times. The women's 4x100 (Williams, DeChenne, Chandler, Hollis) ran a 47.31 while the women's 4x400 (DeChenne, Williams, Elise Hopper, Donna Marie Harris) logged a 3:54.55. The men's 4x100 (Aiden Wise, Albertin, Cantrell Thomas, Isaiah Webster) recorded a 42.54 and the men's 4x400 (Albertin, Thomas, Webster, Johan Correa) registered a 3:18.19.
  • Erica Cabanos won the triple jump with a leap of 37' 10.5". She added a PR in the long jump (17' 10.75"), good for 3rd place.
  • The final event win went to Steiner Christensen in the 3000-meter (8:55.47).
  • Branden Wise recorded the lone provisional qualifying mark of the day with a launch of 193' 8" in the javelin, good for 2nd place and a PR.
  • Along with his relay performances, Webster added a 3rd place finish in the triple jump (43' 5") and a PR in the 200-meter dash.
  • Chris Hines logged a 2nd place finish and a PR in the long jump (22' 11.75"). He added another PR in the javelin.
  • Ellie DeGroot had a big day, recording a 3rd place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.78) and three additional PRs (javelin, long jump, 200-meter).
  • 20 more Wildcats earned PRs at the meet: Carley Huber (100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, long jump), Wyatt Franklin (shot put, discus throw), Zoe McDevitt (100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles), Tehya Moore (long jump, triple jump), Madison Thompson (400-meter, 1500-meter), Hudson Moore (100-meter, 200-meter), Shawn Clough (1500-meter), Grace Twiss (100-meter hurdles), Garrett Hough (1500-meter), Aiden Wise (110-meter hurdles), Sam Katsuda (pole vault), Reilly Williams (400-meter hurdles), Donna Marie Harris (200-meter), Brenna Board (hammer throw), Jazmin Mendoza (hammer throw), Deylan Okinaka (400-meter hurdles), Sarah Sewell (200-meter), Logan Martin (hammer throw), Beatrice Le Gore (3000-meter), and Grace Howard (3000-meter).
UP NEXT:
  • Next weekend, the Wildcats will be split up for a pair of meets. Part of the team will be headed to the WWU-hosted Ralph Vernacchia on Saturday, Apr. 29, while the other portion of the team will head to the Oregon State High Performance Meet from Friday, Apr. 28, to Saturday, Apr. 29.
