Central Washington finished out the Seattle Pacific Kickoff Classic 0-2. The 'Cats suffered an opening 0-1 loss to Cal Poly Humboldt and then fell 1-2 in a close battle against Westminster.
Paige Savage scored the 'Cats first goal of the season early in the second half of the Westminster game.
Lily Newberry took the corner and Savage headed it past the keeper and into the back of the net.
Kass Jaggard and
Mallory Patzer got the starts in goal. Jaggard recorded five saves and Patzer made three.
All-time, the 'Cats are 0-2 against Chico State and 4-2-1 against San Francisco State.
SCOUTING CHICO STATE
Chico State split their opening away games, beating Regis 2-1 and falling to fourth-ranked Colorado School of Mines 0-4. In 2022, Chico they averaged 1.16 goals per game. Mackenzie Gill was their standout player, scoring four goals and adding four assists. Piper Matson was also a dominant scorer putting three in the back of the net.
In their season opener, Jiana Martin and Avery Pieri scored to lift Chico State over Regis. The Wildcats took 20 shots in two games with six on frame.
Emma Hoffman leads Chico State between the pipes. In her two starts this season she recorded 12 saves and has a 2.22 goals-against average.
Chico State is 2-0 overall against Central Washington and won the battle of the Wildcats last year by a score of 2-0.
SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO STATE
The Gator's dropped their opening matches to Colorado School of Mines and Regis 0-4 and 0-3.
Last season, 2022 graduate AJ Turner led The Gators, tallying two goals and three assists. Last year, Brynn Reyes scored two goals and was a main component of San Francisco State's offense.
Kylie Tone has two starts in goal for San Francisco State and has 14 saves to her name.
Historically, Central Washington has the upper hand on this matchup, winning the last three meetings.
