Wildcats Swept on Day One of the Tournament of Champions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington University softball team opened up their time at the Tournament of Champions with a pair of setbacks against Cal State Dominguez Hills and hosting Stanislaus State. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:
 
GAME 1
 
  • Final: Central Washington (1), Cal State Dominguez Hills (5)
  • Records: CWU (9-17), CSUDH (15-10)

  • Final: Central Washington (5), Stanislaus State (7)
  • Records: CWU (9-18) , Stan State (9-15)
  • Location: Warrior Field, Turlock, Calif. 
 
VS CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
 
SCORING:
 
  • Mariah Ramirez helped the Toros strike first with a home run to center field making it 1-0 CSUDH in the top of the first inning. 
  • Alexis Aguado increased CSUDH's lead in the top of the third when she singled to the pitcher to score Julissa Gomez. 
  • Jillian Hampson put the 'Cats on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when she sacrificed herself to score Sasha Mitchell and make it 2-1 Toros. 
  • The Toros added to their lead in the top of the fifth when Ramirez sacrificed herself to score Gaby Gandara which was followed by Kianna Abellera singling up the middle to score Aguado and Faith Hernandez and make it 5-1 Dominguez Hills. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched the full seven innings for CWU allowing 10 hits, five runs, one walk, and struck out six against 31 batters. 
  • Ramirez earned the start for CSUDH pitching the first five innings allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and struck out five against 21 batters. 
  • Sara Bhatt pitched the final two innings allowing two walks while striking out one against eight batters. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with three hits as Mitchell, Karsyn Decker, and Kate Hopkins all recorded one hit apiece. 
  • Hampson accounted for the sole Wildcat RBI. 
  • Mitchell, Hampson, Laney Kaysner, and Alyssa Benthagen all drew one walk apiece. 
  • The Toros finished with 10 hits with Jay Ross, Aguado, Gomez, and Gandara all finishing with two hits. 
 
VS STANISLAUS STATE
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wildcats broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when TK Kai singled through the left side to score Hampson and make it 1-0 CWU. 
  • Still in the fourth inning, Ashtyn Falor singled to left field to score Cady Wilton which was followed by Brooke Blocker reaching on a fielders choice and a throwing error by the third baseman allowed enough time for Kai and Kate Hopkins to score and make it 4-0 'Cats. 
  • Still in the top of the fourth inning, Makenna King reached on a throwing error by the shortstop to give enough time for Kaysner to score and make it 5-0 Wildcats. 
  • The Warriors responded in the bottom of the fourth inning when Faith Erb singled to the pitcher to score Karli Dalbianco which was followed by Jessica Gutierrez singling to the shortstop to score Marissa Cerda and cut the Wildcat lead to 5-2. 
  • Still in the bottom of the fourth, Stan State saw Lauryn Serda single up the middle to score Erb and Katie Thornsberry and make it 5-4 CWU. 
  • Stanislaus State would tie it up when Sasha Martello singled up the middle to score Gutierrez still in the bottom of the fourth. 
  • The Warriors would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Erb singled through the right side to score Cerda and Dalbianco to make it 7-5 Warriors. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched the first 4.1 innings for CWU allowing 13 hits and seven runs six of which are earned against 27 batters.
  • Olivia Ross relieved Kessler pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing one hit against five batters. 
  • Victoria Alarcon started the game for Stan State pitching 3.1 innings and allowing four hits, four runs two of which earned, and one walk while striking out three against 15 batters. 
  • Martello pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing one hit and one run that wasn't earned against 14 batters. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with five hits led by Hampson with two. 
  • Benthagen, Kai, and Falor all recorded one hit apiece. 
  • Kai and Falor each finished with one RBI. 
  • Hopkins drew the sole walk for CWU. 
  • The Warriors finished with 14 hits with five different players earning two hits. 
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats are now 7-10 against Dominguez Hills all-time. 
  • Central owns a 9-11 record against Stanislaus State including a 6-10 record in Turlock. 
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will dive into day two of the Tournament of Champions with another pair of battles tomorrow. 
  • Central will first take on Cal State East Bay (14-7) at 11:30 a.m. on Warrior Field. 
  • CWU will then take on Sonoma State (14-9) for a 4:00 p.m. clash on field five of the Pedretti Sports Complex.
