Wildcats Hold Annual Gold Star Games Saturday, Welcome Western Oregon for Pivotal Conference Series

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University softball team is stepping back up to the plate after a week break and taking on the Western Oregon Wolves in a four-game series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader will be the Wildcats annual Gold Star games where they will honor fallen military members and their families with the ceremony starting at approximately 11:50 a.m.

Friday's games will occur during Campus Parking Enforcement hours of operation. Due to that, patrons will need a guest parking pass if you don't already have a CWU pass in order to park in the paved parking lots closest to the Gary & Bobbi Frederick Field (Lots V-18 and V-22). The dirt parking lots by the softball fields are free to park (Lots X-22 and X-23) as well as free parking along East 18th avenue.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JOE DIPIETRO

"This weekend is a very important series with Western Oregon as we are both tied in the standings. We need to play to our abilities this weekend to help us as we come to an end of the regular season. These 4 games have major playoff complications, so we need to have a good weekend here at home. The girls are excited to get back on the field after having some much needed time off to recover."

LAST WEEK

The Wildcats had a week of rest last week with no scheduled games!

SCOUTING WESTERN OREGON WOLVES

The Wolves have started their season 18-17, and hold a record of 6-6 in GNAC play. CWU and WOU met back in a non-conference series but three out of the four games were canceled so they have not really seen each other play.
WOU has four players batting over a .300 average. Leading the wolves off is Victoria Zimmerman with a .360 batting average with 100 at bats. Not too far behind Zimmerman is Kate Ronning with a .343 batting average with 99 at bats. Following Ronning in the standings is Lexi Carlos and Sydney Conklin both with .320 averages.
WOU leads the GNAC with their pitching statistics. Mackenzee Collins leads the Wolves with 126 strike outs and holds a 1.76 ERA. Alivis Holden holds a 1.87 ERA with 29 strike outs, and 36 walks. All the Wolves pitchers together have 189 strike outs and hold a 2.28 ERA.

UP NEXT

The Wildcats will head up on to rivalry territory and take on the #11 Western Washington University Vikings (30-4, 10-2 GNAC) in a four-game series starting on Friday April 19th at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. The series will continue Saturday, April 20th 12:00 and 2:30 p.m.
