QUOTABLE
"I'm very proud of our guys tonight," CWU Head Football Coach
Chris Fisk said. "It was so much fun to be back home and to put on a show for our fans. It's very encouraging to win the game this way and still have so many things to improve upon. I can't wait to get back to work on Monday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats opened the game with a three-and-out stop of the Mustang offense capped by a quarterback hurry from Isaac Clark to force the Mustang quarterback to throw an incomplete pass.
- The Wildcats combo of Tyler Flanagan and Cam Daniels rushed their way down the field with Darrien Gaines making a 12-yard catch to set CWU up at the WNMU 30, but a trick play with a Jalen Grable 30-yard rush would put CWU on the board and with Wyatt Redding making the point after touchdown attempt saw CWU leading 7-0 with 9:59 left in the first quarter.
- The crimson and black forced the Mustangs into another three-and-out capped by a Chase Loidhamer sack of nine yards. The 'Cats drove down the field only to fumble at the WNMU 5-yard line and give the ball back to the 'Stangs. The Wildcat defense did what they did best and forced a turnover on downs setting the 'Cats offense up at their own 40-yard line.
- The Wildcats continued marching down the field aided by a 19-yard Marcus Cook reception from Kennedy McGill, followed immediately after by a 28-yard Darius Morrison touchdown reception from McGill to put CWU up 13-0 with 16 seconds left in the quarter.
- The Wildcats would take back over at the 7:26 mark of the second quarter and continued to work their way down the field as a pair of Flanagan rushes set the 'Cats up at the WNMU 1-yard line. A quick timeout by the 'Cats helped Flanagan punch it in with Redding making the PAT put CWU up 20-0 heading into halftime.
- CWU immediately came out of the halftime break and saw McGill connect with Max Moenoa for 25 yards and Andrew Molloy for eight yards to put CWU at the WNMU four-yard line. Flanagan did what he does best on the next play and punched it in the final four yards to make it 26-0 CWU with 11:40 left in the third quarter.
- The 'Cats defense forced another three-and-out of the Mustangs offense helping set the offense up at midfield. Daniels took over for 28 yards followed by McGill connecting with Gaines for a 24-yard touchdown with Quinton Pacheco connecting the PAT putting CWU up 33-0 with 9:26 left in the quarter.
- The Wildcats earned the ball back after forcing another turnover on downs to end the third quarter.
- Justice Taylor and Beau Phillips spearheaded the lethal running game on the 'Cats next drive with Caleb Christensen connecting with Molloy on a nine-yard pass to set Pacheco up for the 39-yard field goal to put CWU up 36-0 with 7:26 left in the game.
- The Wildcat defense stood pat and gave the ball back to the crimson and black offense who wound down time to seal the victory, 36-0.
