Wildcats Shut Out on Day One of 2025 Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team opened the 2025 campaign with a pair of shutout setback on Friday.

Game 1
 
  • Final: Central Washington (0), Chico State (3)

  • Final: Central Washington (0), Concordia Irvine (5)

  • Location: OC Great Park, Irvine, Calif. 
 
GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Aiyana Curry put the first tally on the board as she sacrificed herself to score Kennedy Gustin and put Chico State up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. 
  • Ali Lewis added on in the second inning with a home run to left field. 
  • Curry did it again for Chico in the third, once again sacrificing herself this time to score Mia Santos and put Chico up 3-0. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the full seven innings allowing six hits, three runs two of which were earned, and earned one strikeout against 29 batters. 
  • Amelie Valdez pitched the full seven innings for Chico allowing one hit and two hit batters while striking out eight against 23 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • McKayla Cable had the only hit of the game for CWU.
  • Chico was led by Lewis who had two hits. 
  • Curry logged two RBI for Chico State. 
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Golden Eagles had a four-run third inning started by a double from Jessica Im to score Maddie Cortez. 
  • Caitlynn Campbell singled to the shortstop to score Im which was followed by Kayla Rodgers tripling to right field to score Campbell. 
  • Audrey Robles added on after sacrificing herself to score Rodgers and make it 4-0 CUI. 
  • Robles added on in the fifth inning when she sacrificed herself to score Rodgers and make it 5-0 Golden Eagles. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched the full six innings for the crimson and black allowing six hits, five runs four of which were earned, and three walks while striking out eight against 29 batters. 
  • Jayden Nishi pitched six innings for CUI allowing three hits and three walks while striking out nine against 24 batters.
  • Kira Morris pitched the final inning earning one strikeout against 3 batters. 
 
HITTING:
   
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • Chico State leads the battle of the Wildcats 19-12 all-time. 
  • This was the first meeting between the two squads at the CUI Kick-Off Classic. 
 
  • Concordia Irvine leads the all-time series 7-0. 
  • The 'Cats are 0-2 against the Golden Eagles in Irvine. 
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats continue into day two of the CUI Kick-Off Classic with two more matchups. 
  • The 'Cats will first take on the Penguins of Dominican (Calif.) (1-1) at 10:30 a.m. from Field Four in Great Park.
