PREVIOUSLY FOR THE 'CATS
Central had a strong weekend–defeating Western Oregon and Saint Martin's, both by a score of 3-1. The Wildcats and WOU split the first two sets before CWU took the third and fourth sets to win. Then, on Saturday, the 'Cats went up 2-0 against Saint Martin's before the Saints took set three. But the Crimson and Black responded with a set four win to take the match.
The Wildcats were led offensively by
Ellie Marble, who scored 24 kills total for both games. She was followed by
Kailey Willsey with 20 kills. Marble and Willsey also hit for .429 and .457, respectively. Willsey also performed well from the service line with four total aces.
Mackenzie Godden had a strong weekend at the net–recording 10 blocks including two solo blocks.
Brooklyn Parker held down the defensive line with 30 blocks, while
Addie Allen led in assists with 50.
ABOUT THE SEAWOLVES
Alaska Anchorage had an impeccable start to its season–going 13-1 with its only loss to Rollins College on Sep. 11. However, since Sep. 27, the Seawolves endured two losses–one to their in-state rival, #23 Alaska Fairbanks, and one to #20 Western Washington. UAA responded with a five-set victory over Simon Fraser to enter this week on a positive note.
The Seawolves have a pair of offensive powers in Lee Ivakina with 205 kills, and Tia Allen with 204 kills. Hannah Trotter feeds the offense with 368 assists so far this season, while Elena Hansen leads the service line with 25 aces. On the defensive side, Madison Galloway leads with 260 digs, while Martina Riba holds guard at the net with 78 total blocks.
The Wildcats face the Seawolves on Thursday, Oct. 16. First serve from the Alaska Airlines Center is set for 8:00 p.m. PDT.
ABOUT THE NANOOKS
Alaska Fairbanks opened the season with an incredible 14-1 run with its only loss coming from the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Aug. 29. The Nanooks responded by going undefeated from that point until last week. The Nanooks' fortunes turned in a tough way–dropping a match to #7 Simon Fraser last Thursday, and then falling to #20 Western Washington, as UAF enters this week looking to answer for the two-game slide.
The Nanooks have a strong set of leaders offensively with Elena Guc leading the pack with 192 kills, followed by Kelli Wright with 133 and Haylee Lyons with 132. Ainsley Smith keeps the offense flowing with her 349 assists, while Tessa Onaga leads in serving with 26 total aces. Defensively, Onaga also leads in digs with 308, while Peri Hoshock leads the front line with 77 blocks.
The Wildcats take on the Nanooks on Saturday, Oct. 18. First serve from the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium is set for 3:00 p.m. PDT.
