THE WILDCATS
Central had a tough series at the College of Idaho last weekend, going 1-3 against the Coyotes. The Wildcats lost the first game on Feb 8, 2-13 after it was postponed due to inclement weather. Later that day, CWU found more success in the bats, scoring seven runs and winning the second game in the doubleheader. On Feb 9, the 'Cats dropped both games 0-7, and 10-14 after a comeback rally fell short.
Strong play at the plate for Central was
Justin Birch, who recorded three RBIs in the series, as well as
Max Bledy and
Noah Juarez, as both recorded two RBIs in the final game's comeback attempt.
SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
The Coyotes opened their 2025 season with a 5-2 record after defeating Azusa Pacific University in a three-game series 2-1 and then beating Regis University in a four-game series 3-1.
The Coyotes have a strong lineup in bats with four batters hitting above .400. These include Tyler Vanneste (.556), Jason Shedlock (.462), Daryl Ruiz (.409), and Jacob Mejia (.400). The batting lineup also appears to have strong contact, getting the ball into the field with 85 hits that have produced 81 runs this season. This contrasts with the nine home runs that 'Yotes have recorded.
The Coyotes also have a pair of pitchers who have been strong on the mound. Matt Romero and Carter Herrera currently hold a 3.38 and 3.60 ERA, respectively. In the 18 innings they've pitched, Romero (8 innings) and Herrera (10 innings) allowed a total of 13 hits and eight runs and have struck out 17 of the 66 batters they have faced.
The Wildcats face the Coyotes on Friday, Feb 14 with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Fiscalini Field.
