THE WILDCATS
Central kicked off the season with a four-game sweep over the Stanislaus State Warriors in Turlock, Calif. including a nine-inning comeback in game three on Feb 2. The Wildcats' offense thrived at the right times, including a stellar performance by 
Brandham Ponce, who hit five home runs in the series including three in the third game. Ponce had seven hits, six runs, and eight RBIs in the series. 
Baba Varner Jr. was a huge presence at the plate as well, hitting a homer in the first inning of game one and then scoring the game-winning run in game two in the ninth inning. Five batters hit above .300 in the series. They include Ponce, Varner Jr., 
Logan Blank, 
Ben Leid, and 
Andrew Sharp.
The 'Cats had strong pitching in the series with 
Daniel Charron starting the series pitching six innings, allowing no runs, five hits, and striking out five of the 22 batters he faced. 
Dakota Todd pitched the final seven-inning game on Feb 2, and remained in for the whole game, allowing five hits, striking out five of the 25 batters he faced, and earning the 5-2 win to complete the sweep.
SCOUTING THE COLLEGE OF IDAHO
The Coyotes opened their 2025 season with a 3-1 series win over Park University Gilbert in Gilbert, Ariz. The 'Yotes are part of the Cascade Collegiate Conference in the NAIA.
The Coyotes have three batters who performed spectacularly against Park University Gilbert, each hitting above .500. They include James Hull (.571), a freshman infielder from Selah, Wash., Trevor Watkins (.571), a junior outfielder from Elk Grove, Calif., and Darren Smith (.500), a junior infielder from Stanwood, Wash.
The Coyotes' pitching has two members who haven't allowed a run in their time on the mound. Oliver Massie started the first game of the series and pitched for three innings, allowing two hits, a walked batter, and striking out five of the 11 batters he faced. Jackson Cummins also pitched three innings in relief to close out the Coyotes' first win on Jan 31, allowing three hits and striking out six of the 12 batters he faced.
The Wildcats and Coyotes take the field for the first game on Friday, Feb 7. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
