QUOTING CWU HEAD SOFTBALL COACH JOE DIPIETRO

"We're back on the road again this weekend at MSUB and we're looking to play more consistent. If we can get all three phases of the game together, we can be pretty good and compete with anyone."

LAST OUTINGS

The Wildcats had their home-opening series last weekend against Northwest Nazarene where CWU went 1-3 against the Nighthawks. The 'Cats took game one by a tight 3-2 score, but NNU bounced back with a 15-6 victory in game two on day one. The Nighthawks took day two by scores of 6-1 and 16-1 in five innings.

SCOUTING THE YELLOWJACKETS

The 'Jackets are 8-14 on the season and 3-1 in GNAC play. CWU and MSUB met down in Nampa a couple of weeks ago where the 'Jackets won both games against the 'Cats by scores of 9-4 and 13-5 in five innings. Since their last meeting MSUB got swept in their four-game road trip at Southern Oregon and Cal Poly Humboldt before rattling off four-straight games, first sweeping Black Hills State and day one of their GNAC-opening series against Simon Fraser before splitting day two against the Red Leafs last Saturday.

MSUB is led by Bryn Lucht and Marleigh Nieto who own a .431 and .426 batting average, respectfully. Nieto, Kaylin Galvin, and Wynter Hurst lead the 'Jackets with seven extra base hits while Lucht leads MSUB with eight homeruns and 15 walks drawn. Lauren Blaschak leads MSUB with six stolen bases.

Emily Watters and Caitlyn James have been the main starters for MSUB, each starting 10 games. Watters leads the pitching corps with a 5.94 ERA, a 5-5 record, and three complete games in 50.2 innings pitched. She's allowed 77 hits, 59 runs with 43 being earned, and 19 walks while striking out 43 of 236 batters. James owns a 9.47 ERA, a 1-6 record, one complete game, and the 'Jackets only shutout on the season in 40.2 innings pitched. She's allowed 85 hits, 61 runs with 55 being earned, and 18 walks but has struck out 20 of 198 batters she's faced.

UP NEXT

The Wildcats will stay on the road for a second-straight weekend as they head north of the border to Simon Fraser (13-16, 4-4 GNAC) for a four-game series in Burnaby, British Columbia at Beedie Field on Friday and Saturday April fourth and fifth. Game one on the fourth starts at 3:00 p.m. while game one on the fifth starts at noon.
