RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Central Washington University Women's Basketball senior guard Sunny Huerta tacked on a second All-American honor Tuesday afternoon, earning Third Team All-American honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
 
"Sunny deserves to be recognized as one of the top 15 players in the country," CWU Head Women's Basketball Coach Randi Richardson said. "What she has accomplished as a Wildcat personally and from a team perspective is amazing. She's established herself as one of the all time greats to ever wear a Wildcat uniform and on top of that she's one of the best human beings you'd ever know.  We are so incredibly proud of her for who she is and what she has been able to accomplish. I am so happy for her to received this well deserved recognition. "

 
The GNAC Player of the Year and D2CCA All-West Region First Team selection, Huerta capped off her career as one of CWU's all-time greats. She recorded career-best numbers in points per game (19.1), rebounds (4.9), assists (121), and three-point percentage (46.2%), while also tallying five blocks, 34 steals, and shooting 44.7% from the field and 83.9% from the free-throw line. Her impressive stats placed her in the top 50 of eight different NCAA Division II statistical categories this season.

 
Huerta's legacy at CWU is cemented among the best in program history. She holds 26 single-season top 10 marks and 16 career top-10 records, including: Most points in CWU history (1,960), Most made field goals (714), Highest career three-point percentage (42.5%), Most games played (124), Most games started (116). Additionally, she holds the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for most points scored in a single game (46 vs. Walla Walla on Dec. 21, 2022), a performance in which she also tied the CWU record for most field goals made in a game (18).

 
With her name etched in the record books, Sunny Huerta's impact on CWU women's basketball will be felt for years to come.
