ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Sophomore Midfielder
Marisa Badillo was recognized on Monday as the Great Northwest Academic Conference (GNAC) Offensive Women's Soccer Player of the Week. During Central's 3-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene University, Badillo shot out of a cannon to begin the game, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Her play shifted momentum in the Wildcat's direction, and they did not give it up from that moment forward. Thanks to Badillo and the 'Cats' efforts, their win vs NNU was good enough to break the two teams' tie for fourth place in the conference, giving the Wildcats sole possession of fourth in the standings right behind Seattle Pacific University. The Wildcats will host Seattle Pacific next Thursday at 5 p.m., where a win from the 'Cats would tie them with SPU for third in the conference.
QUOTING HEAD SOCCER COACH JOHN HAWKS:
"Marisa has been lights out for us as a true facilitator of play; the midfield cohort has been lights out on both sides of the ball. We stressed the importance of winning the run of play early; with the support of her teammates,
Marisa Badillo was the catalyst to making that a reality for us on Saturday! Getting a Brace within the first 15 minutes of the game is a testament to her performance. Marisa is a microcosm of what this team is doing collectively, and our future is bright for it."
Badillo and the 'Cats will stay at home for another week with another pair of game coming to fans from Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium. CWU will first take on Seattle Pacific (7-3-2, 4-2-2 GNAC) on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. before wrapping up the homestand against Montana State Billings (2-5-5, 2-4-2 GNAC) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
