Wildcats Welcome MSUB for Annual Gold Star Games and Senior Day

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team continues their season after a week off when they welcome the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets on Friday and Saturday with Friday's games accounting for the annual Gold Star Military Family Appreciation Dya and Saturday's games being Senior Day to honor Mia Flores.

The Wildcats were on the road two weekends ago at Saint Martin's where they went 1-3.
 
They started off with a 5-4 setback in game one where the Saints walked it off in the seventh inning. Kasi Thomas led CWU with two hits. Jadyn Holdren had two RBI while Kayla Brusseau and Thomas added one each. McKayla Cable, Brooke Baker, Melise Brown, and Flores all drew one walk. Zoey Theophilus pitched all 6.1 innings allowing nine hits, five runs with four earned, five walks, and earned two strikeouts against 33 batters.
 
The 'Cats fell in game two by a 9-4 score. Cable led the 'Cats with four hits while Brusseau had two. Brusseau led CWU with two RBI while Izzy Vargas and Thomas each had one. Thomas, Holdren, Baker, and Brown all drew one walk. Baker pitched the final inning allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks but drew a strikeout against three batters.
 
The Wildcats earned their only win on the weekend in game three with a 6-2 victory. Holdren, Baker, Turpen, and Jessica Reitz-Eaton all had two hits to lead CWU. Baker and Turpen had two RBI while Brusseau and Reitz-Eaton each had one. Cable, Vargas, Baker, Brown, and Ashlyn Cook all drew one walk. Theophilus pitched all seven innings allowing eight hits, two runs, six walks, and struck out five of 36 batters.
 
The Saints wrapped up the weekend with a 15-7 victory in six innings. Brusseau led CWU with two hits and tied with Thomas with two RBI. Baker and Reitz-Eaton each added one RBI. Baker drew three walks while Brown drew two and Reitz-Eaton drew one. Baker pitched 1.1 innings allowing three hits, three runs, and three walks against nine batters.
 
SCOUTING THE YELLOWJACKETS:
 
MSUB is 7-38 on the season with a 5-15 GNAC record. They went 2-4 at the Beaver Bubble Invite, then got swept at Metro State and at Colorado School of Mines before going 0-4 at the Washburn Invitational. They had an 0-5 weekend at the NorCal Crossover before getting swept in a nonconference series at Northwest Nazarene. They opened GNAC paly getting swept at Simon Fraser before getting swept in their home-opening series against Saint Martin's. They earned their first GNAC victory in their road series at Western Oregon, winning game three by an 11-1 score in six innings, but fell in the other three games. They then were swept at Montana in a doubleheader. They rattled off two wins in each of their previous two home weekends, splitting both series against Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene.
 
Marleigh Nieto leads MSUB with a .444 batting average while Wynter Hurst has logged the most hits with 53 on the season. Nieto has hit 13 doubles this season while Hurst has the most triples with two. Grace Hood has eight home runs to lead the 'Jackets while Hurst is the leader with 24 RBI. Josie Thelien has drawn 17 walks on the season. Nieto, Theilen, and Emily Brevig all have five stolen bases on the season with Nieto and Brevig a perfect five for five.  
 
Ashley Akers owns a 6.31 ERA with a 3-4 record, three complete games pitched, and one save in 22 appearances with seven starts. She's pitched in 54.1 innings allowing 95 hits, 59 runs with 49 earned, 10 walks, and has struck out 11 of 257 batters. Danica Butler has a 7.03 ERA with a 2-13 record and four complete games pitched in 25 appearances with 16 starts. She leads MSUB with 77.2 innings pitched allowing 137 hits, 117 runs with 78 earned, 43 walks, and has struck out 29 of 373 batters. Avery Gray is the other regular starter, starting 14 of 19 games she's appeared in, earning an 8.33 era, a 1-12 record, and has one complete game pitched to her resume. She's pitched 59.2 innings allowing 131 batters, 87 runs with 71 earned, 33 walks, and has the most strikeouts on the team striking out 39 of 311 batters.

The Wildcats will conclude the regular season on the road as they head back to Nampa, Idaho for a four-game series against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2. Friday's games are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., all times in PST.
