2010 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Division II Pre-Season All-American Team
HOULTON, Maine (June 7) -- Central Washington University defensive linemen
Tyrell Nielsen (Woodland) and
Eugene Germany (Pomona, Calif.) have both been recognized as Pre-Season Division II All-Americans by Consensus Draft Services (CDS) for the 2010 season.
Nielsen, a redshirt junior who missed the entire 2009 season due to injury, was a second-team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection during his sophomore season in 2008 after making 37 tackles and leading the Wildcats in both tackles for losses (13) and quarterback sacks (7 1/2). He is expected to return to a starting role on the end in 2010, where he has started 23 of 25 career games.
Germany, who will be a senior for the Wildcats, was a unanimous first-team all-GNAC selection last season. The Pomona, Calif., native totaled 37 tackles while starting all 13 games as a defensive end in 2009, adding 10 1/2 tackles for losses and three quarterback sacks as a junior. Germany is expected to move to the interior line in 2010.
Central Washington finished the 2009 season with a 12-1 record and ranked third in the final Division II national polls. The Wildcats advanced to the national quarterfinals before losing, 21-20, to eventual national champion Northwest Missouri State. CWU returns just seven total starters from that team that claimed the program's 32nd all-time football conference championship with a 6-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference record.
