ELLENSBURG (Apr. 7) -- The Central Washington University baseball team lost the final two games of its four-game home stand with Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday, falling 12-3 and 7-3.
The Wildcats (11-17, 7-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) held a 2-0 after the first inning of both games, but the offense was subdued by the Crusaders' pitching staff in both contests as CWU only accumulated a total of 10 hits on the day. Northwest Nazarene (18-13, 7-7 GNAC) totaled 26 hits, with 15 in game one and 11 in the nightcap.
Senior
David Leid (Carson City, Nev./Carson HS) was responsible for all three of the Wildcats' runs in game one, going 2 for 5 with three RBI. Junior
Jason Lotzer (Lynnwood) started on the mound for CWU in game one and allowed just three runs on five hits through six innings, but NNU rallied to score five more runs combined off the right-hander in the seventh and eighth innings. Lotzer dropped to 2-2 on the season.
Seniors
Glen Reser (Spokane/Mead HS) and
Brady Kincannon (Federal Way/Decatur HS) were the only Wildcats to drive in a run in game two, and senior
Brett Bielec (Port Orchard/North Mason HS) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. NNU pitcher Sean McDonald picked up a complete-game victory in the nightcap to improve to 3-3 on the season.
The Wildcats will step out of conference play for their next six games, beginning with a doubleheader at Whitworth University on Tuesday (Apr. 10) at 12:30 p.m. CWU is then back at home for four more games next weekend, taking on Corban University of Salem, Ore., with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 13-14) at noon and 11 a.m., respectively.
