ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington University Baseball alumni Tanner Swanson is returning to his home state, joining the Seattle Mariners coaching staff as the club's new bench coach, the team announced Friday.
A former Wildcat infielder, Swanson brings an extensive background in player development and professional baseball to Seattle after spending the past seven seasons in the New York Yankees organization. During his tenure with the Yankees, Swanson served in several roles, including quality control coach, field coordinator, and major league catching coordinator.
Originally from Cle Elum, Washington, Swanson's journey through baseball included stops at Green River College and Everett Community College before continuing his collegiate career at CWU. Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, building a reputation as an innovative instructor and respected voice in player development.
His return to Washington represents an exciting homecoming for the CWU baseball community and another example of Wildcat alumni making an impact at the highest levels of their professions.
