ELLENSBURG (Apr. 14) -- Senior Kyle Sani (Kennewick/Southridge HS) went 4 for 4 with a home run, and junior Sam Williams (Seattle/Bishop Blanchet HS) provided Central Washington University with two insurance runs late in game one as the Wildcats defeated Oregon Institute of Technology, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Owls won the nightcap, 6-2.

CWU won the four-game non-conference series, three games to one, and is now 23-15 overall on the season. Oregon Tech is 16-30 overall.

GAME ONE: CWU 7, Oregon Tech 3
Sani had three singles and a home run, and Williams went 2 for 4 with three RBI in support of starting pitcher Stuart Fewel (Jr., Portland, Ore./Wilson HS) as the Wildcats extended their win streak to five games with a 7-3 win in the opener.

Sani, Williams, and junior Justen Weigel (Naches/Naches Valley HS; 2 for 4) all had multi-hit games to lead a 13-hit attack for the Wildcats, who scored three runs in the eighth inning to break open a one-run game. Sani led off that inning with a solo home run to left-center field -- his 10th of the season -- and Williams added a two-run double later in the inning.

Fewel struck out four and walked just one over seven innings of work to earn the victory and improve to 5-1 on the season. He scattered eight hits before turning the game over to senior reliever Randy Button (Allyn/North Mason HS). Button struck out three and allowed just one hit over the final two frames to earn his third save of the season.

CWU scored single runs in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings before its three-run outburst in the eighth. Oregon Tech tied the game on two occasions with single runs in the top of the third and the top of the fifth, but both times the Wildcats with a go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning.

Four OIT players finished with two hits each.

GAME TWO: Oregon Tech 6, CWU 2
A four-run top of the sixth inning by Oregon Tech spoiled a 2-1 CWU lead and a strong outing from sophomore starting pitcher Davis Engel (Ellensburg), and propelled the Owls to an eventual 6-2 victory.

Each team scored once in the first inning while totaling three hits. The Wildcats' run came home on a two-out RBI single by junior left fielder Scott Stone (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley HS).

CWU took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI double by Weigel. That put Engel in position for the win in his longest start of the season, as he allowed just four hits while striking out five over five innings of work.

OIT stormed ahead in the top of the sixth against three Wildcat relievers, piecing together three hits and three walks for four runs. Tyler Conklin's sacrifice fly tied the game at 2-2, and Spencer Reed then gave the Owls a 4-2 lead with a two-run single. Jared Nelson also drove in a run in the inning with a single.

Oregon Tech added an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning after a pair of CWU errors.

The Wildcats were outhit by a 7-5 count in the nightcap. Five different CWU hitters had one hit apiece, while Reed finished 2 for 3 for Oregon Tech.

CWU will return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play for its final 12 games of the 2013 regular season. The Wildcats play the next eight of those contests on the road, beginning with a four-game series at Saint Martin's University next Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 20-21).
