Seven Run Fifth Inning Lifts CWU Baseball Over OIT 8-3

Box Score ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 24) -- The Central Washington University baseball team erased an early 2-0 deficit by exploding to score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead the Wildcats to an 8-3 non-conference victory over Oregon Tech Monday afternoon at the CWU Baseball Field.

The win brings the Wildcats to .500 on the season with a 11-11 record.  The Owls fall to 9-22 on the season.

Kasey Bielec (Port Orchard, WA, North Mason) continued his hot hitting, by going 2-for-3 with four RBI, three of which came on a homerun to left field during the Wildcats seven run fifth inning.

Oregon Tech took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning off two-run homerun by shortstop Tyson Dahl.   

Central Washington answered by scoring one run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bielec scoring Eric Tinnell (Ephrata, WA, Ephrata).  Then the following inning CWU pieced together five hits and seven runs, the biggest of those was the three-run round-tripper by Bielec to give the Wildcats an 8-2 lead.  Joe Castro IV (Union City, CA, James Logan) and Justen Weigel (Naches, WA, Naches Valley) each drove home a run in the fifth inning on singles, and Tinnell picked up a two-RBI single in the frame as well.

Tinnell  finished the game 2-for-4 from the plate, driving in a pair of runs in the process, and Ethan Sterkel (Ellensburg, WA, Ellensburg) extended his hitting streak to eight games going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Willie Davies (Shoreline, WA, Shorecrest) picked up his first win of the season (1-0) has he pitched the first 5 1/3 innings scattering seven hits and three runs -- two earned – while striking out four batters.

Max Dickinson (Hoquiam, WA, Hoquiam) was outstanding in relief for CWU, pitching the final 3 2/3 innings, striking out four batters with no walks and just three hits allowed.

Central Washington and Oregon Tech will finish off its two game series tomorrow at Noon.
