ELLENSBURG, Wash. (April. 2) -- After a five game road trip the Central Washington University baseball team returns home to face conference leading Western Oregon University for a four game series starting Friday.
 
The Wolves took three of four from the Wildcats in Monmouth, Ore.  last month, but Western Oregon has dropped three out of its last four contests after going on a six game win streak.
 
The Wildcat snapped a seven game losing streak by winning its last three games against Holy Names University.  Cory Welch picked up a win and a save Sunday afternoon.  He threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief in the teams 6-2 win, and turned right around to throw five innings in the nightcap striking out five batters in the 10-3 win.  Welch's performance earned him Great Northwest Athletic Conference pitcher of the week.
 
The steady bats of Kasey Bielec and Darren Honeysett will lead the Wildcat offense.  The duo is one and two in the GNAC in batting average at .400 and .398 respectively.  Bielec also leads the conference in on base percentage at .492, and Honeysett is second in the GNAC in slugging percentage at .694.  The Wildcats have a total of 81 extra-base hits, with over 43-percent (35) coming off the swings of Bielec and Honeysett.
 
The Wolves have just one player hitting over .300, with Matt Taylor leading the way with a .372 batting average.  Their .255 team batting average is the lowest in the conference, but the own the second best team earned run average to date at 4.30.  Jesse Pratt is WOU most reliable starting pitcher owning a 5-1 record and a 2.45 ERA.
 
With some wins this weekend, the CWU Baseball team can climb up the GNAC standings, and with a clean sweep they can find themselves just one game out of first place.
