Wildcats Sweep Wolves in Nicholson

ELLENSBURG, Wash.— The Central Washington volleyball team bounced back to start the week sweeping the Wolves from Western Oregon.

After a tough trip to Alaska last week, the 'Cats bounced back with confidence following a strong week of practice.

"I thought it was great, this match was an extension of our practice this week and the girls got after it. We had a great attitude coming into this match after cleaning up some things from last week. Western Oregon challenged us with a few things we've been working on, but our response was great. I thought Sydney Remsberg set a great offense when she was in there and got us out of tough situations. Overall, another good win." CWU Head Coach Mario Andaya said.

The Wolves came out strong in the first set, battling to take a 5-3 lead over the 'Cats on a pair of kills from Bailee Hartsook. The 'Cats found their feet, and a trio of kills from Ashley Kaufman and a single from Tia Andaya propelled the 'Cats to take a 11-6 lead.

Late in the set Leanna Shymanski followed Ashley Kaufman and Marianna Payne for back-to-back-to-back kills giving the 'Cats their largest lead of the set, 21-13.

The Wolves managed a few points by way of errors by the 'Cats, and it was Emma Daoud-Hebert who closed the curtain on set one. The 'Cats took the opening set, 25-19.

In the second set the Wolves bounced back with the same energy as the first, taking a 7-4 lead on a trio of errors from the 'Cats. The 'Cats had found an equalizer, but a service error and kill from Isabel Hurliman allowed the Wolves to retake the lead, 11-10.

Laynie Erickson landed a kill down the line to help the 'Cats extend their lead 22-15, forcing the Wolves to take a timeout and regroup.

A pair of attack errors gave the Wolves a glimpse of hope, but once again it was Emma Daoud-Hebert with the curtain call. The 'Cats took set two in identical fashion, 25-19.

After taking back-to-back sets, the 'Cats found themselves rolling into the final set with a 7-2 early lead. Late in the set a four-point run with two service aces from Sydney Remsberg allowed the 'Cats to take a commanding lead, 22-12.

The Wolves would on tack on one more, and it was Shaunessy Fisk fresh off the bench who slammed the cage shut on the Wolves with a service ace. The 'Cats took the final set and the match, 25-13.
