ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Associated Press (AP) announced their 2023 Division II All-American Teams on Wednesday morning. Central Washington junior safety
Tanner Volk was named to the First Team Defense.
The honor comes after Volk had a season for the ages, helping guide the Wildcats to a regional runner-up finish and the crimson and black's first playoff victory since 2009. He finished the season with 124 total tackles: 64 solo, 60 assisted, as well as 8.5 tackles for loss for a net of 14 yards lost. Volk forced one fumble in addition to one fumble recovery and four pass breakups. He has an NCAA-leading 13 interceptions on the season, with 182 return yards and one touchdown.
Volk is joined by UTPB linebacker Hayden Kelly as the only representatives from the Lone Star Conference.
