Wildcat Softball Welcomes Corban for First Home Games of the Season

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington softball team will open their home season with a double-header against the Corban University Warriors this Saturday.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
 
The Warriors will be on their third straight week on the road accumulating a 1-5 record in the process. The Warriors opened their season in a double-header against Vanguard University in the neutral site of US Cellular Community Park in Medford, Ore. The Warriors dropped the pair to Vanguard by identical 0-3 scores.
 
Corban then traveled to Lincoln, Calif. just north of Sacramento for a two-day double header against Menlo College and Jessup University. The Warriors were swept on day one, first losing 2-6 to Menlo before following that up with a 3-7 setback to Jessup. Corban bounced back for a split on day two notching an impressive 7-3 win over Menlo before falling in game two of the day by a 3-9 score to Jessup.
 
The Wildcats and Warriors have faced off three times with the Wildcats holding the 2-1 advantage, however the most recent meeting back on February 24th, 2019, was a 4-2 decision in favor of the Warriors down in Portland.
 
The Warriors are currently led by Morgan Gleeson who currently has a .417 batting average with 12 at-bats, five hits, two RBIs, and a .667 slugging percentage. Samantha Martinez has already notched a home run for the Warriors, as well as leads Corban with four RBIs. The Warriors pitching staff is no slouch as Emmaleena Wood currently holds a 1.00 ERA in three outings and seven innings pitched. Wood has only allowed four hits, two runs with only one earned, walked two batters, struck out one batter, and is holding opponents to a .167 batting average. Alise Olson is the other stellar pitcher for the Warriors, currently holding a 2.84 ERA in two outtings with a 1-1 record. Olson has worked 12.1 innings pitched allowing nine hits, six runs, five runs earned, allowing 10 walks, with three strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .214 batting average.

UP NEXT
 
The Wildcats will continue non-conference action against a familiar foe, as the Wildcats will travel to Western Oregon. The Wildcats and Wolves will face off both Saturday and Sunday February 25th and 26th in a two-day double-header series with both days game one first pitch set for 11:00 a.m. from the WOU Softball Field.
