Wildcats Gear Up for First Home Games of the Season

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington baseball prepares for its first home games of the season. The 'Cats host a non-conference doubleheader Saturday against Western Oregon and then one against Saint Martin's on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
Central Washington won game one of the series against Stanislaus State 6-0 in Turlock California. The Warriors bounced back taking the final three games of the series.
 
In CWU's 6-0 victory, Sophomore Brayde Hirai got his second win of the season posting a great outing. He threw 8.1 innings, allowed no runs, and struck out two.
Over four games at the plate against Stanislaus State Sam Lauderdale and Charlie Larson found success.  Sam Lauderdale went 2-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Additionally, Lauderdale smoked a solo shot in game three. In game three, Charlie Larson went 3-4 with a double.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLVES
After two series, the Wolves are 4-4 overall. Western Oregon beat Eastern Oregon 9-0 on Sunday. Western Oregon put up two runs from the third inning on to beat Eastern Oregon. At the plate, Levi Cummings, Curran Mitzel, and AJ Cortez all tripled.
 
On the mound, Chris Hardin threw a complete game 5-hit shutout. In his 7 innings of work, he recorded 10 strikeouts.
 
PITCHING
Western Oregon has four players leading the way on the mound: Arturo Alvarez, Dylan Chalmers, Bryce Bond, and Chris Hardin. Alvarez had a 1.50 ERA and recorded 14 K's so far this season. Chalmers is 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA and has fanned nine batters. Bond And Hardin have ERAs of 1.93 and 2.19 respectively. Bond has recorded 10 strikeouts and Hardin 18.
 
HITTING
Offensively, Derek Maiben leads the team with a .371 average on 13 hits with a double, home run, and six RBIs. Curran Mitzel hits .333 with a .997 on base percentage and has two triples so far this season. Overall, the Wolves have a team batting average of .258 and two homers this season.
 
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Saint Martin's is 1-7 overall. They triumphed 7-2 over Oregon Tech on Sunday claiming their first win of the season. In the win, Nikki Scott threw five innings recording four strikeouts and then Carson Jones came in and finished the game. Carson threw two innings and struck out four. At the plate, Trevor McCorkle hit a triple and had two RBIs.
 
PITCHING
The 'Cats could face Blaze Wong, Justice Yamashita, and Nikki Scott on the mound. Wong has a 1.13 ERA in two appearances and has recorded seven strikeouts. Yamashita leads the Wolves in strikeouts recording 16. Scot is 1-1 this season recording five Ks.
 
HITTING
Brady Bean and Alohi Arecchi lead the team's offense. Bean averages .478 at the plate with 11 hits, two doubles, and one RBI. Arecchi is hitting .296 with a .794 on base percentage. He has two doubles and two RBIs on eight hits.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Wildcats travel to Lacey, Washington next week to take on Saint Martin's in a four-game series starting on Saturday, March 4th at noon.
