Volk Earns D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Junior safety Tanner Volk has been named the D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance that helped guide the Wildcats to a 27-24 upset over the ninth-ranked Angelo State Rams Saturday night.

This award comes after Volk was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

"I'm very proud of Tanner and his effort in games," Head Football Coach Chris Fisk said. "I think everybody sees now why we put the 44 on him."

Volk is coming off a huge game in the Wildcats victory over 9th-ranked and defending LSC champions Angelo State 27-24 in thrilling fashion last Saturday. The captain of the defense showed out in a big way for the Wildcats helping lead the Wildcat defense to hold the Rams from tying the game in the final minutes of the game to lead to the win.

Volk finished the night with the second-most tackles for the 'Cats with 13, six solo and seven assisted. He also found himself getting into the Rams backfield dropping 1.5 tackles for loss for two yards. Arguably the biggest plays of the season came from Volk with his two interceptions, returning one for an 81-yard touchdown.
