QUOTING HEAD COACH JOE DIPIETRO

"We're excited to start our season in Texas this weekend. We'll have an opportunity to play teams we haven't seen before and play the first weekend at an all-turf complex, which should help if we get some rain. The team has worked very hard to correct some of our shortcomings from last spring and we feel we're ready. Making this an extended trip allows us to play one of the top teams in the NAIA on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully, we'll avoid major injuries and have a season to remember."

THE WILDCATS

The Wildcats will be looking towards the experience of a veteran team that features 11 seniors to improve upon the 21-27 record and a 9-15 GNAC record that landed the team in sixth place in the GNAC last season.

The Wildcats saw Myiah Seaton, Allie Thiessen, Janelle Gary, Harlee Carpenter, and Isabel Womack all graduate from a season ago. Womack will return to the team to take over duties as the new Graduate Assistant Coach.

Highlighting the returners for CWU is two-time unanimous First Team All-GNAC catcher Alyssa Benthagen who finished the season batting a .351 batting average while nabbing 46 hits, seven homeruns, and 36 RBI while drawing 31 walks. Also, back to boost the bats for CWU is the trio of outfielders Karsyn Decker, Jillian Hampson, and Kate Hopkins who posted the next three best batting averages of the returning starters. Brooke Jordan, Makenna King, and Laney Kaysner will all be back for the infield this season with Kaysner looking to build upon her team-best 12 stolen bases from a season ago.

The Wildcats will welcome back their two lowest ERA pitchers from a season ago in Ashlee Laver (2.62 ERA) and Payton Kessler (3.82 ERA). Laver finished last season with the fifth-lowest ERA in the entire GNAC and posted four shutouts. Kessler was the sole pitcher from last season to finish with a winning record at 7-4 while only allowing 19 walks in 62.1 innings pitched.

DiPietro kept busy in the offseason adding six true freshmen to the roster and two sophomore transfer pitchers who will all be vying for playing time.

ASU lost their Second Team All-American and New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award winner as well as their two other top batters from a season ago, opening the door for junior outfielder Ashton McMillan to guide the Rambelles. Ginter finished the season with 243 strikeouts in 208 innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS

OLLU is coming off a 51-8 season while going 28-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play and earning a 35-game win streak in the process. The Saints went 4-1 in the San Antonio bracket of the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament with their sole loss coming in a 1-0 score against Hope International but getting revenge with back-to-back 2-0 victories over Hope International to advance to the NAIA World Series. The visit to the NAIA World Series was short as the Saints dropped their two games first a 6-3 setback against Marian (Ind.) before falling 6-5 to Midland (Neb.) in the elimination game.

The Saints will start off their season in Alexandria, La. in a tournament where they'll see 8th-ranked Central Methodist, Missouri Baptist, Central Baptist, and Central Christian before heading back to the Alamo City for the three-game series against CWU.

Eight seniors will be on the Saints roster this season, headlined by Cassandra Valdez who is the first softball player in OLLU history to earn NAIA First Team All-American honors.
