RICHARDSON, Texas – Central Washington University Football players Cooper Britton and Brycen Indell earned the final Special Teams and Defensive Lone Star Conference Players of the Week of the 2024 season after helping CWU to a 13-3 victory over rival Western Oregon last Saturday to secure the 'Cats spot in the NCAA Division II Championship field.
 
"We are extremely proud of both Cooper and Brycen, and their accomplishments on earning the Player of the Week in the Lone Star Conference," CWU Head Football Coach Chris Fisk said. "We're excited to see them use this momentum to compete in the playoffs."
 
Britton played a crucial role in helping the 'Cats take a lead in what turned out to be a gritty game against WOU. He put CWU on the board with 5:09 left in the first quarter with a 22-yard field goal. With 3:23 left in the third quarter, he gave CWU the lead with a 26-yard field goal. He helped CWU seal the deal with a made PAT in what turned out to be the only touchdown of the game. He wound up scoring seven of the 'Cats 13 points on Saturday.
 
The true freshman now is a perfect 5/5 on field goals with his longest coming from 38 yards and is 19/20 on PATs.
 
Indell was a leader for the CWU defense, leading the crimson and black with 11 tackles, three solo and eight assisted. He also led CWU with 2.5 tackles for loss to push the Wolves back 12 yards as well as adding 1.5 sacks for a loss of 11 yards.
 
The redshirt sophomore has really stepped up for CWU this season as he is currently second on the team in total tackles at 53 and has added five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
 
Britton, Indell, and the rest of the Wildcats will now turn their attention to the NCAA Division II Football Championship with a big test in the first round as they make a return trip to Gunnison, Colo. for a rematch with 10th-ranked Western Colorado. The Wildcats and Mountaineers clash this Saturday, Nov. 23 at 12:00 p.m. PST from the Mountaineer Bowl.
