PORTLAND, Ore. – A Great Northwest Athletic Conference leading 17 members of the Central Washington University softball team earned GNAC All-Academic Honors, the GNAC announced Wednesday morning.
Headlining the Wildcats on her fourth-straight GNAC Academic All-Conference Team is graduate catcher
Alyssa Benthagen with a 3.69 GPA in her Master of Athletic Administration, making the All-Academic Team every year since 2021.
In her first appearance on the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, senior outfielder
Kate Hopkins finished with the highest GPA on the Wildcats roster with a 3.97 GPA in Business Administration.
Making their third appearance on the Academic All-Conference Team is
Jillian Hampson (3.85 GPA in Special Education),
TK Kai (3.87 GPA in Professional Pilot),
Makenna King (3.43 GPA in Public Health), and
Ashlee Laver (3.87 GPA in Biology), with all four making the All-Academic Team since 2022.
Six different Wildcats are making their second appearance on the Academic All-Conference Team;
Karsyn Decker (3.48 GPA in Psychology),
Ashtyn Falor (3.83 GPA in Physical Education),
Brooke Jordan (3.72 GPA in Business Administration),
Sasha Mitchell (3.94 GPA in English Language & Literature),
Reese Schimmel (3.93 GPA in Business Administration), and
Cady Wilton (3.95 GPA in Elementary Education) all made the team last year as well.
Joining Hopkins as first timers on the GNAC All-Academic team is
Anna Fridell (3.85 GPAA in Sport Management),
Anika Garcia (3.71 GPA in Elementary Education),
Laney Kaysner (3.30 GPA in Clinical Physiology),
Payton Kessler (3.76 GPA Undeclared), and
Serena Perez (3.50 GPA in Accounting).
To be eligible for the GNAC All-Academic Team, an athlete must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. The athlete must also be in their second season competing at their respective institution which means freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and first year transfers are ineligible. For graduate students, their undergraduate GPA must have met the 3.2 GPA requirement as well as their graduate GPA. They must be a year-long rostered player that is competing during the season making redshirt athletes ineligible.
