ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team will look to build upon their season-opening weekend when they head down to Turlock, California to participate in the Stan State Invitational this Friday through Sunday.

LAST WEEKEND:
The Wildcats began their 2026 season at home, hosting the 3rd-ranked NAIA Eastern Oregon Mountaineers on Friday and the Warner Pacific Knights on Saturday, going 3-1 on the weekend.
CWU first took a split against the Mountaineers, winning game one by a 9-4 score before falling 14-11 in five innings in game two which was halted due to darkness. They then took down the Knights in both games on Saturday, first a 14-0 score in game one that only lasted five innings before taking game two in the sixth inning by a 10-2 score.
McKayla Cable paced the 'Cats hitting with a .688 batting average with 11 hits on the weekend that she paired with a double, a home run, eight RBI, a drawn walk, and a stolen base.
Jadyn Holdren also had an outstanding weekend, hitting a .643 batting average with nine hits to go with a double, three homers, five RBI, and two drawn walks.
Kayla Brusseau also knocked down two homers while
Joelie Eder and
Melise Brown both added one each.
Zoey Theophilus started two games last weekend pitching a 1.91 ERA to go with two wins, a complete game shutout, nine hits, four runs allowed with three being earned, and five walks while striking out five more in 11 pitched innings.
Brooke Baker also had a great start to the season, pitching four innings in two games including one start while pitching a 1.75 ERA with two hits, one run, five walks, and four strikeouts against 15 batters.
SCOUTING THE #5 PIONEERS:
Cal State East Bay rose to fifth in the NFCA Top-25 Coaches Poll this week after a 9-1 start to their season. They began their season at the Concordia Irvine Kickoff Classic, going 4-1. They first defeated Hawaii Hilo 3-1 before suffering their only setback on the year thus far in an 8-3 defeat to Colorado Christian. They bounced back to rattle off a 3-2 win over Vanguard, a 5-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific, and a five-inning 8-0 win over Chaminade. They continued their impressive start with an outstanding weekend last weekend at the D2 West Coast Challenge. They beat then third-ranked Western Washington 17-1 in five innings before edging out Azusa Pacific 7-6. They then rattled off a 6-0 victory over Biola, a 7-5 victory over Western New Mexico, and concluded the weekend with a 6-0 win over Colorado Mesa.
Rylee Gomez and Jeslyn Cuellar lead the Pioneers with 15 hits apiece while earning a .417 and a .405 batting average, respectfully. CSUEB has 21 doubles on the season with Gomez leading the way with four while three different Pioneers have logged a triple so far this season. Marissa Farias, Jasmyn Morales, Macie Mead, and Gomez all have a home run to their name this season with Morales leading the RBI race at 10. Sarissa Block has drawn six walks on the year while Jenna Porto is a perfect 3-3 on stolen base attempts.
Marissa Quintero has had a tremendous start to the 2026 season, pitching 32.1 innings and allowing a 0.22 ERA, 14 hits, three runs with only one earned, and 10 walks while striking out 33 batters while earning two shutouts. Jaidyn Gamble has four starts to her name this season in 21 pitched innings while earning a save, a 2.33 ERA, 14 hits, 13 runs with seven being earned, four walks, and 14 strikeouts against 82 faced batters.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS:
Stanislaus State is 3-2 on the season. They opened their season last weekend at the D2 West Coast Challenge. They earned a pair of victories on opening day, first an 8-6 victory over Western Oregon, then a 4-2 win over Biola. They fell in both of their day two games, first a 9-2 setback to Concordia Irvine followed by a 6-4 loss to Azusa Pacific. The concluded the weekend with a bounce back 6-5 victory over Lubbock Christian.
Ava Montesdeoca is batting .500 on the season and is tied with Katelyn Bridgeman who is batting .421 on the season with eight hits. Malia Babasa is adds a .400 batting average and leads the team with three doubles and the only Stanislaus State triple this season. Nat Camarena owns the only home run for the Warriors and leads the team with eight RBI. McKenna Beach has drawn three walks to lead Stan State while Moxie Barton is 2-3 on stolen base attempts.
Alexis Camberos leads the pitching corps for the Warriors, pitching 12.1 innings and earning a save while posting a 1-0 record and a 1.70 ERA. She has allowed 12 hits, seven runs with three earned, five walks, and has earned six strikeouts against 51 batters.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS:
Dominican is 3-2 on the season. They earned a season-opening split, first falling to Colorado Christian 3-0 before bouncing back for a 5-2 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Penguins then split on day two, taking down Cal State San Bernardino in five innings by an 11-3 score, but fell to 14th-ranked Cal State San Marcos 7-0. They wrapped up their season-opening weekend with a 10-4 victory over Nebraska-Kearney.
Kate Tobola leads the Penguin offense with eight hits, and a .615 batting average to pair with a double, a team-high two triples, the only DU home run on the season, five RBI, and four drawn walks. Kelissa Lee is also off to a great start on the year, earning a .444 batting average and is tied with Taylor Rodriguez and Annabelle Burke for second-most hits on the team with four this season and all three having three RBI on the year. Rodriguez leads Dominican with two doubles. Tiare Guerrero leads the Penguins in stolen bases, going 2-2 on attempts this year.
Hannah Escalante is having a terrific start to the season and currently has a 1-0 record with a 0.88 ERA in eight pitched innings. She's only allowed four hits, one run, four walks, and earned three strikeouts. Alexis Verduzco has two starts this season with eight innings pitched while having a 3.50 ERA and a 1-1 record. She's allowed 11 hits, five runs with four being earned, two walks, and a strikeout.
SCOUTING THE OAKS:
Menlo is still searching for their first win of the season, going 0-5 at the Concordia Irvine Kickoff Classic. They fell to Western Oregon in their first game by a 4-2 score, then fell to Cal State San Bernardino 9-2. In the second day of the weekend they lost to Northwest Nazarene 4-0, then fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills 11-4. They concluded the weekend with a 5-0 setback to Colorado Christian.
Aleatha Buchner and Grace Tuiteleleapaga are tied with a .250 batting average to lead the Oaks. Buchner leads the way with four hits while Alina Perez has the only double for Menlo and Sierra Pasco has the only triple for MC. Menlo is still searching for their first home run of the season. Buchner is tied with Pasco and Emma Medina with two RBI while Lucy Brook leads the way with three drawn walks. Medina and Sydney Costello are both 1-1 on stolen base attempts this year.
Rosaline Torralva leads the pitching group with a 3.50 ERA and an 0-1 record in eight innings pitched. She's allowed eight hits, five runs with four earned, four walks, and earned a strikeout against 29 batters.
UP NEXT:
The 'Cats will follow up their time in California with a trip to familiar territory in Nampa, Idaho and Northwest Nazarene to participate in the Nighthawks Invitational. CWU will see San Francisco State at 9:00 a.m. and the hosting Nighthawks at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20. They then have a double-header against the Gators on Saturday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. with all the games happening on Bobby Welch Halle Field.
