The Wildcats were at home last weekend when they faced Simon Fraser, going 1-3 on the weekend.
SFU won the first game by a 5-4 score with a last inning comeback.
McKayla Cable,
Jadyn Holdren,
Kasi Thomas,
Brooke Baker,
Mia Flores, and
Izzy Vargas all had one hit each. Baker had two RBI while Thomas added one. Holdren also drew the 'Cats only two walks.
Zoey Theophilus pitched all seven innings allowing seven hits, five runs with two earned, no walks, and four strikeouts against 29 batters.
The Red Leafs earned the day one sweep with a 17-11 victory in game two with a nine-run fifth inning. Cable led the 'Cats with three hits while Brusseau,
Lizzy Turpen, and
Melise Brown had two hits each. Brusseau and Thomas had three RBI each while Cable added two and Brown tacked on one more.
Mia Flores drew two walks while Baker and Brown each drew one.
Alex Flohr pitched 2.2 innings allowing two hits, no runs, and no walks against 10 batters.
The Wildcats bounced back for a game three 2-1 victory to begin day two. Cable led CWU with three hits while Holdren added two and Vargas, Thomas, and Flores tacked on one hit each. Thomas and Holdren each had an RBI. Vargas, Thomas, and Brusseau all drew a walk. Theophilus pitched all seven innings allowing six hits, one run, four walks, and six strikeouts against 31 batters.
SFU wrapped up the weekend with a 3-0 victory getting all three runs in the sixth. Vargas, Thomas, Brusseau, and
Jessica Reitz-Eaton all had one hit each for the 'Cats. Vargas and Holdren drew a walk each. Flohr pitched 5.2 innings allowing seven hits, three runs, and one walk while earning a strikeout against 25 batters.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS:
Saint Martin's is 22-12 on the season including a 7-1 GNAC record. SMU went 4-1 at the UT Tyler First Pitch Invitational, taking down two year reigning national champion UT Tyler. They then went 2-3 at the Stan State Invite and followed that up with a 1-4 weekend at the NorCal Crossover. They were swept in their home opener to Western Washington before heading to Florida for The Spring Games where they had a huge week, going 8-0. They started out GNAC play with a 3-1 weekend against Northwest Nazarene at home before heading on the road two weekends ago to sweep Montana State Billings.
Kaylee Walker and Shelby Lawson lead the Saints offense, both batting .410. Walker leads SMU with 43 hits while Lawson is the team leader in stolen bases going 11 for 11 on stolen base attempts this season. Taylor Orgeles has the most doubles for the Saints with 12 and leads the team with 34 RBI. Walker and Haley Agnea have two triples with Agena adding five home runs and 21 drawn walks to lead the Saints.
The Saints pitching corps has been excelling this season with three pitchers posting ERA's of under three. Kayla Vaughan has a 2.83 ERA with a 9-3 record, two complete games pitched, and two shutouts in 17 starts. She's allowing 53 hits, 31 runs with 27 earned, 34 walks, and 57 strikeouts in 66.2 pitched innings against 243 batters. Bridget Johnson dons a 2.95 ERA with a 9-4 record, two complete games and three shutouts in 18 appearances with 15 starts. She's pitched 64 innings allowing 69 hits, 34 runs with 27 earned, 23 walks, and 31 strikeouts against 253 batters. Keagan Norfleet has posted a 2.91 ERA with a 3-1 record in 13 appearances with two starts and has pitched one complete game. She's pitched in 21.2 innings allowing 29 hits, 15 runs with nine earned, eight walks and has struck out 13 of 95 batters.
UP NEXT:
The crimson and black will have a week off before welcoming the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets for a four-game series. The 'Cats and 'Jackets clash on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at noon and 2:00 p.m. each day. Friday's games will count as the annual Gold Star Games to honor military members and their families while Saturday's games will be senior day to celebrate the two seniors on the CWU roster.
