Box Score OAKLAND, Calif (Feb. 19) --The Central Washington University baseball team showcased timely hitting and strong pitching as they cruised to an 11-0 victory over The Academy of Art Friday afternoon in Oakland, CA.
The win gives the Wildcats a 2-1 record on the season, while the Urban Knights fall to 3-2 on the season.
The Wildcats piled on run after run, scoring in five straight innings including two three-run innings in the third and fifth. In total, CWU compiled 11 hits and played flawless defense en route to the victory.
Junior starting pitcher
BRANDON WILLIAMS (Auburn Mountainview HS), threw seven strong innings for the Wildcats to improve his record to 2-0 on the season. He surrendered seven hits while striking out seven batters with just one walk.Â
Eight different Central Washington batters earned a hit in the contest, led by
KASEY BIELEC (North Mason HS) and
JOSH POTTER (Mount Rainier HS). Bielec was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate scoring three runs in the contest, one of which on a solo homerun to leadoff the fifth inning. Potter was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Also driving in a pair of runs was
JAKE LEVIN (Redmond HS) and
CAMERON HARPER (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) who were 1-for-2 and 1-for-3 respectively.
The Wildcats got solid relief pitching from
WILLIE DAVIES (Shorecrest HS) and
MAX DICKINSON (Hoquiam HS). Davies relieved Williams in the eighth inning and gave up one hit, and Dickinson pitched in the ninth surrendering just two hits.
The Academy of Art centerfielder Joseph Marchini and shortstop Jordan Thomas both had three hits on the day for the Urban Knights.
The Wildcats will continue its four-game series with the Urban Knights with a doubleheader tomorrow Feb. 15 starting at 10 a.m.
