Box Score Ellensburg, Wash (May 3) – The Central Washington University baseball team dropped three games this past weekend, losing 11-6 in the only game played Satuday.
The loss leaves the Wildcats record at 28-18 overall and 17-14 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as the season concluded.
Stuart Fewel (Portland, OR, Wilson) cruised into the fifth allowing just one earned run in his five-plus innings of work, striking out four.
The Wildcats got the scoring going early in the first inning as
Kasey Bielec (Port Orchard, WA, North Mason) and
Ethan Sterkel (Ellensburg, WA, Ellensburg) each had RBI-groundouts, scoring
Cory Welch (Las Vegas, NV, Bishop Gorman) and
Eric Tinnell (Ephrata, WA, Ephrata).
Kyle Baumgartner (Enumclaw, WA, Enumclaw), broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth inning as he singled home Bielec.
Troubled occurred in the eighth inning as Saint Martins cashed in for six runs. Six Saint's batter reached in consecutive appearances and the lead increased to 11-5 in favor of SMU.
An RBI single by Welch in the top of the ninth would give the Wildcats another run to make the score 11-6, but the rally would be halted there.
Game two would be rained out, and will most likely not be rescheduled because GNAC tournament field was set due to conference results from today
The Wildcats will begin the GNAC tournament May 8, at Western Oregon University. They will be the second seed in the tournament and play Saint Martin's.
