ELLENSBURG, Wash. (March 12) – Coming off a 1-3 weekend at Western Oregon, the Central Washington baseball team (9-9, 3-5 GNAC) will host Northwest Nazarene (13-8, 3-1 GNAC) this Friday and Saturday for a GNAC conference four game series.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back after a rather slow weekend offensively.
Zach Reay and Ben Dunbar have been splitting the catching duty all season and also are currently leading the team in hitting. Reay has acquired a batting average of .435 in his 23 at-bats and Dunbar's .426 batting average is leading the entire conference.
The Crusaders pitching staff is currently the best statistically in the GNAC and will be a challenging matchup for the Wildcats. They are led by left-handed pitcher Jake Reppert. The senior has complied quite an impressive stat line early in his final collegiate season. Pitching in 36 innings he has a 0.75 ERA, has surrendered only three earned runs and has a 4-0 record.
Offensively, NNU has four players hitting around .350 with more than 25 hits. Kyle Thomson leads the team with a .413 batting average, .503 on-base percentage and tops the GNAC in stolen bases with seven.
This series is going to be huge for the Wildcats, as they have fell to fourth place in the standings after last weekend's series. Projected starting pitchers for CWU this weekend are
Zach Johnson,
Brandon Williams,
Dustin Hamilton and
Cory Welch.
First pitch on both Friday and Saturday is at 1 p.m.
