ELLENSBURG, Wash (April. 28) –The Central Washington University baseball team is coming off a series win versus Saint Martin's in which they took three games from the Saints and will close the regular season with a non-conference two-game series with Lewis and Clark State (LCSC), a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) powerhouse and 16-time NAIA national champions.
The Wildcats come in with a 23-24 overall record and a 14-18 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). LCSC competes in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and has tallied 40 wins this year, with 10 losses and have reeled off 13 straight wins.
The Wildcats hold a sliver of hope for a playoff berth this weekend as their destiny lies in the hands of Western Oregon, who is deadlocked for first place with Montana State Billings. Western must sweep Northwest Nazarene this weekend for the Wildcats to make the GNAC Tournament.
Kasey Bielec, the Wildcats lone All-Academic team selection, continues to spearhead a Wildcats team that hits at .295 clip. Also, Bielec leads the GNAC in hitting with a .415 mark. Central Washington also sports three players hitting above .300.
Lewis and Clark State also features a potent offense and well-rounded lineup. Junior infielder Seth Brown leads all of the NAIA with 22 homeruns and ranks third in RBIs with 71. Cabe Reitan is the Warriors leading hitter, with a .413 batting average and a .490 on base percentage.
Lewis and Clark pitchers are no slouch either. Their ace, Beau Kerns is 9-1 with a 2.91 ERA. LCSC has three pitchers with five or more wins.
