CWU Track & Field Complete Day One of GNAC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ore.-The Central Washington University track and field team completed the opening day of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships Friday on the campus of Western Oregon University. 
 
"It was not a bad first day," CWU head coach Kevin Adkisson stated. "I am really happy to go home with two champions on the men's side. Josh (Boston) and Braydon (Maier) were underdogs coming into the meet, but competed very well. I am looking forward to tomorrow. We will hopefully catch a few more breaks and stay in the hunt for the GNAC Championship."


The men finished the first day in second place with a total of 59 points. Concordia leads the field with 63 points and Western Washington sits in third with 48 team points. The CWU women's team finishes the day in third with a total of 38 team points behind Concordia (71 points) and Seattle Pacific (49.5 points). 
 
MEET SUMMARY
Men

 
  • Senior Josh Boston entered the meet ranked eighth overall, but ended up winning the 10k with a time of 32:08.40. Matt Conrardy also competed in the event, finishing ninth overall (33:11.13). 
  • Braydon Maier captured his second title of the year after winning the pole vault after clearing a height of 15 feet, 6.25 inches. Bryan Cadena placed sixth overall (14-00.50). 
  • Kodiak Landis placed second in the prelims of the 400-meter with a time of 47.96 seconds. Daniel Calderon claimed fifth (49.01) followed by Doc Porter in sixth (49.28). 
  • Landis returned to compete in the 200-meter dash, earning tenth overall with a time of 22 seconds. 
  • The 3,000-meter steeplechase featured Corbin Carlton capturing fourth overall after improving his provisional qualifying time of 9:07.71. 
  • In the shot put, Ethan Tonder claimed third (51-01.75) and Alberto Tafoya finsihd fourth (51-00). 
  • Bobby Widmar just missed qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter, placing ninth with a time of 11.04.
  • Jeremy Bade and Ryan Gunther finished seventh and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, respectively. 
  • Ryan Gunther placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.75), followed by Nick Bullo (7th, 57.63) and Michael Forster (9th, 58.28). 
  • Grant Scarlett finished ninth in the long jump after leaping a distance of 21 feet, 4.75 inches. 

Women
  • The Wildcats captured three of the top four spots in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles led by Mariyah Vongsaveng with a meet record 13.64 seconds. Erykah Weems finished third (14.50), Sidney Trinidad placed fourth (14.70), and HarLee Orteag earned sixth (14.89).  
  • Vongsaveng also competed in the prelims of the 100 (10th, 13.22) and 200 (9th, 25.30). Erykah Weems captured third with a time of 12.68 seconds and will compete tomorrow in the finals. 
  • Central Washington also won the top four spots in the 400-meter hurdles led by Ali Anderson in first with a time of 1:00.95. Sidney Trinidad finished second (1:01.97), followed by Erykah Weems (3rd, 1:00.77) and Katie Collins (4th, 1:03.03). 
  • HarLee Ortega earned second in the long jump after leaping a distance of 18 feet, 5.25 seconds. Keeley Phommathirath (5th, 17-6.75), Brooke Williams (7th, 17-5.50), and Halle Irvine (8th, 17-04). 
  • In the 10K, Alexa Shindruk claimed third with a time of 34:57.08. 
  • Nicole Soleim placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:00.43. 
  • Jasmyne Neria finished seventh in the 400-meter with a time of 58.38 seconds
  • Ortega placed seventh in the high jump after clearing a height of 5 feet, 3.25 inches and Shaddia Meadows earned tenth (5-01.25). 
 
The Wildcats will return to Monmouth, Ore. tomorrow to finish competition at the GNAC Championships.
