PORTLAND, Ore.- The Central Washington University women's track and field team earned the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Team of the Week Honors after an impressive performance over the weekend at the Spokane Invitational.
The Wildcats were led by sprinter Ashlyn Nielsen, who turned in a stellar meet, featuring two GNAC indoor all-time top-10 performances. Nielsen placed fourth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.57 seconds before winning the 200 meters in 24.37 seconds. The Wildcat now ranks No. 15 nationally in the 60 meters and No. 5 in the 200 meters, with her 60-meter mark ranking eighth and her 200-meter time sixth on the GNAC indoor all-time list.
Senior
Elise Hopper also impressed in the 60 meters, posting a personal-best time of 7.84 seconds. In the 60-meter hurdles,
Ellie DeGroot and
Emy Ntekpere finished second and third in the finals with times of 8.80 and 8.92 seconds, respectively.
Junior
Maliyah Gordon added another GNAC all-time top-10 indoor performance for CWU in the weight throw, recording a mark of 56-3.25 (17.15 meters) on her fifth attempt. Gordon also led the Wildcats in the shot put with a throw of 42-8.75 (13.02 meters).
Emy Ntekpere, the defending NCAA Division II national champion in the triple jump, began her season with a victory after clearing 40-1.5 (12.23 meters). Freshman
Azariah Miller followed with a fourth-place finish at 37-1.75 (11.32 meters), and senior
Tehya Moore took sixth with a jump of 36-11 (11.25 meters). In the shot put, freshman
Felicity Taula added a 10th-place showing with a throw of 39-0.5 (11.90 meters).
Meggie Kilcup represented Central in the 600 meters, finishing fifth with a time of 1:38.70, while
Heidi Gill competed in the mile and ran 5:51.50 in her season debut. Kilcup led the Wildcats top 4x400-meter relay team, which posted a time of 4:00.42 alongside Hopper, Sam Delay and
Layla Fields.

Central returns to competition following the winter break and will compete at the UW Preview in Seattle on Jan. 16–17.
